Velma Acord, 74, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Velma was born September 26, 1934 in Van Buren, AR to Finis Melton & Emma Sylvia (Bernard) Ewing. She was a Real Estate Loan Closer for Adams Abstract Company in Poteau, OK. Velma was preceded in death by 2 sons, Reginald & Robert Acord; 8 brothers, Evan, Glen, E.T. Goodlow, Red, Charles, Doug, & Jack Ewing; and her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Renneckar of Broken Arrow, OK; son, Greg Acord of Poteau, OK; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Loretta Adams of Wister, OK & Sally Barker of Ft. Smith, AR; 2 brothers, Bill Ewing of Ft. Smith, AR, Thell Ewing of Texas; several nieces & nephews; other relatives & loved ones; a host of beloved friends.
Services held 10 am, Monday, November 24, 2008 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment following in Forest Park Cemetery of Ft. Smith, AR. Pallbearers: Johnie Ray Adams Jr., Robbie Renneckar, Stephen Fruen, Jody Loggains, Bill Maggard, & Danny Hutchison.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Velma's family. Velma was always fun to be around when my brothers and I were children. She is a bright spot in our memories. Melissa Allen, Phillip Spears, and Scott Spears
I will miss Velma dearly. She was a true, true friend in our years together at Adams Abstract. Never a dull moment with her. She made a life alot more fun and interesting when she was around. Wish I could be there for her farewell. Shelly Caldwell
