Donald Johnson


Donald Johnson, 85, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Don was born July 15, 1934 in Kaiser, AR to Linzy & Nolus (Ferguson) Johnson.  He was a supervisor at Phelps Dodge Tubing Co.  Don moved to Cameron, OK at the age of 13 and graduated school there.  He later married and moved to California where he remained until he retired and moved back to Poteau, OK.  Don was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Melvadine Hughes Johnson and Birdie Johnson; brothers, Lewis, Howard, Bill, Fred and Retus Johnson and sister, Martha Goins.

Survivors include his son, Michael Don Johnson of Greenville, MS; sister & brothers in law, Pat & Ed Salway, Arnold Goins of Panama, OK; sisters in law, Louise & Bonnie Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Private family services will be held.

Sharon Kay Baker


Sharon Kay Baker, 66, of Howe, OK passed away Thursday,  August 29, 2019 in Howe.  Sharon was born January 24, 1953 in Clinton, OK to Roy & Alice (Johnson) Haynes.   She loved her grandkids, dog & chickens.  She loved to help the church.  Sharon was a veteran of the US Air Force.  She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sheri Lynn Bills.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert of the home; son & daughter in law, Daryl & Nikki Thomas of Howe, OK; grandchildren, Thomas Allen, Jace Thomas, Jasmine Thomas & Jarod Wilburn; great grandchildren, Tayan Thomas & Krystina Shepard; brother, Glen Haynes of El Reno, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 11 am, Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Howe, OK with Rev. Larry Stacy officiating.  Interment will  be in Hoteyaby Cemetery.  Pallbearers Thomas Allen, Daryl Thomas, Jorge Amezcua, Scott Dickerson, Jace Thomas, Tayan Thomas, Derek Baker. 

Shirley Ann Kish


Shirley Ann Kish, 72, of Pocola, OK passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in Pocola.  Shirley was born June 3, 1947 in Stigler, OK to Floyd Shirley & Juanita (Ledbetter) Scoggins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Juanima Cummings & brother James Scoggins.

Survivors include her husband, Richard of the home; daughters & sons in law, Keri & David Michael Rathbun of Greenwood, AR, Traci & James Adam Holland of Rogers, AR; grandchildren, Brinnon Michael & Ethan Charles Rathbun, James Haden & Heaven Destiny Holland; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am – Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Southside Free Will Baptist,  Ft. Smith, AR with interment following at Ft. Smith National Cemetery at Noon.   Pallbearers will be Mike Rathbun, Adam Holland, Haden Holland,  Brinnon Rathbun, Ethan Rathbun & Chris Cummings.

The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Randy McDaniel


Randall Eugene McDaniel “Randy Mc”, 71, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 in Poteau.  Randy was born May 23, 1948,  in Marysville, CA to Omer Charles & Peggy Joyce (Meeder) McDaniel.   Randy was an oil field consultant.  He loved  playing music with his buddies; fly fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow & Peggy White; brother, Charley McDaniel; daughter, Jaime Benson; infant sons, Matthew & Jason Collins, Granddaughters, Andrea Benson & Lindsey Morrison; grandsons Nathan Covey & Aden Collins. 



Survivors include his wife, Joan; children, Charley McDaniel, Julie & Shadd Stover, Robin & Ronnie Brown, Artela & Joe Blair, Jacob & Tiffany Collins, John & Toni McDonald; brothers, Scott & Willena McDaniel, David White & Tom White; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,  loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Monday, September 2, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Trace McDaniel, Jason Blair, Scotty White, Teddy Oare, Jordan Key.  Honorary pallbearers will be his band members.



The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon  from 2-4 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Verla D. Sanders


Verla Dean Sanders, 94, of  Howe, OK passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2019 in Ft Smith.  Verla was born  September 7, 1924 in Summerfield, OK to Sherman and Mattie Wren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and Husband William Dale Sanders.



Survivors include her Son Rick Sanders and wife Phyllis, Granddaughter Sheryl and Lester Ford, and Carolyn Sanders; Great-Grandsons Shawn Goad and wife Autumn, Waylon Goad and wife Tiffany, Chris Copeland and wife Haley, and Shane Mead; Great-Great Granddaughters Heidi Goad and Mackensie Beason; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Graveside services will be 2 pm, Friday, August 30, 2019 at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
