Janice Abernathy

Janice Laverne Abernathy, 72, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Bokoshe.  Janice was born September 13, 1941 in Bokoshe, OK to Raymond Forrest & Pearl E. (Brown) Richardson.  Janice was a loving wife, wonderful, caring mother & grandmother.  She was willing to sacrifice anything for her children  and family regardless of her plans or how she felt.     Janice loved watching her children, grand and great grandchildren play sports.  She especially enjoyed family gatherings. She attended New Life Gospel Church in Panama, OK.  Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Bob Abernathy Jr. on February 9, 2013 and daughter, Bobbie J. Bell on August 15, 2011.

Survivors include her children, Trina & Rick Ward of Cameron, OK, Jimmy & Celia Abernathy of Bokoshe, son-in-law, Mike Bell of Bokoshe, OK; her special grandchildren, Misty & Joe Walker, Michael & Brittany Bell, Britney & Jansen Hambright, P.J. Services will  be 10 am, Monday, August 4, 2014 at New Life Full Gospel Church, Panama, OK with Rev. Joe Pierce & Leroy Orr officiating.  Interment will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Rodney Abernathy, Eddie Abernathy, Skip Parker, Jerry Sides, Randy Richardson, Mike Walker, Charlie Burton. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren & great grandchildren.

James Laurel "Dick" Dickson

USAF CMSgt (Ret) James Laurel “Dick” Dickson, 80, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center.
 
He was born April 4, 1934 in Wister, Oklahoma, a son of the late O.E. and Gertie Green Dickson.  Following his graduation from Pine Bluff High School, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1952, he entered the U.S. Air Force.  During his career he had been stationed in Japan, Europe, and in the U.S., including Moody Air Force Base (Valdosta), Alabama, Texas, and Travis Air Force Base in California where he retired from Aircraft Quality Control.  Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
 
Mr. Dickson is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ruby Corbett Dickson of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, James “Sandy” Dickson, Jr. and Vicki of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cynthia Tollefsen and Al of Valdosta, and Lauri Brady of Wenatchee, WA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers, Cecil Dickson of Wister, Ernest Dickson of Oakland, OR, Denver Dickson of Wister, Melvin Dickson of Covington, OK, and Charlie Wayne Dickson of Wister; and two sisters, Lorene Dickson Naylor of Heavner, OK, and Betty Dickson of Oakland, OR.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laurel Anne Brady.
 
A Memorial Service for Mr. Dickson will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim "J.R." Bishop

    James Russell Bishop, 80, of Poteau, OK  passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Poteau.  Jim was born July 22, 1934 in Taberville, MO to James Earl & Phleatus Mozelle (Cooper) Bishop.  He was a veteran of the US Army.   Jim was an oil pipeline start-up technician.  He worked for Alyeska Pipeline.   Jim was a member of the Arctic Circle Club.  He was a very intelligent and had a dry wit that was really funny.  He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pansy Chandler Bishop and second wife, Evelyn Branscum Bishop.
    Survivors include his children,  Kathleen Bishop of Bokoshe, OK & (son-in-law - Kent Rose of Gueda Springs, KS) , Nancy Bishop  & Sharon Kletter of Dallas, TX, Dwayne Bishop of Oreck, CA and Margaret Bishop of Poteau, OK; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Dixie & Don Shrum of Gilmore, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.
    Services - 2 pm, Saturday, July 26, 2014 in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, OK.

Donald Gene Williams III



Donald Gene Williams III, 18 months, of Arkoma, OK passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 in Little Rock, AR.  Donald was born January 17, 2013 in Tulsa, OK to Donald Gene Jr. & Elizabeth Francis Ann (Bennett) Williams.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill & Shirley Bennett.

Survivors include his parents, Donald Jr. & Elizabeth Williams of the home; sisters, Jessica Caldera of the home, Kristina Ray Parris of Tulsa, OK; grandparents, Donald Sr. & Zonia Williams of Arkoma, OK; numerous aunts & uncles, cousins, other relatives & friends; dog, LuLu.

Amanda Dawn Potter, 39, of Panama, OK passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Amanda was born December 31, 1974 in  Ft. Smith, AR to Scott & Tommie Kay (Robison) Courtney.  She was a homemaker. 

Survivors include her daughters, McKalah Potter & Amberlea Potter of Clay, KY; mother & stepdad, Tommie Kay & David Carson of Panama, OK; father & stepmother, Scott & Paul Courtney of Van Buren, AR; sisters, Saundra  & Rikk Cardenas of Elk City, OK, Misty & Stephen Beasley of Ft. Smith, AR; numerous other family members, loved ones & friends.

Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, July 23 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. James William Connelly



James William Connelly, 89, of Fayetteville, AR (formerly of Poteau, OK) passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 in Fayetteville.  James was born May 2, 1925 in Poteau, OK to Joseph & Helen Connelly.  James was a veteran of US Navy.  He taught high school agriculture & worked in the livestock industry.  James served as an ordained Deason in First Baptist Church, Poteau, OK and First Baptist Church, Hope, AR where he taught a Men’s Sunday School class.  He was a member of Cross Church, Springdale, AR.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved crappie fishing and quail hunting.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Mary Jo Henson, Betty Connelly, Patsy Branscum, Patricia Connelly, Margaret Campbell; brother, Harrel Connelly; beloved son in law, Dr. Walter Allison; his parents & step father, Perry Chaffin.

Kenneth Rorabaugh



    Kenneth Ernest Rorabaugh, 56, of Heavener, OK passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at his home.  Kenneth was born December 22, 1957 in Modesto, CA to Robert William & Betty (Williams) Rorabaugh.  He was a respiratory therapist.  He was the founder & grandmaster in CHI FI Mongoose Kempo Kuntao & held black belts in multiple martial arts styles.  He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Kurtis Rorabaugh.

Veda Davis



Veda Pearl (Oglesby) Davis, 82, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Poteau.  Veda was born November 22, 1931 in Hontubby, OK to Jim & Offie (McKinney) Oglesby.  She was an LPN.  Veda was of the Baptist faith.  Veda was a member of the Texas Assoc. of  Nurses, The Rebekahs.  She was married to Boyce Dean Davis of Hontubby in Fresno, CA in 1947.  They settled in Midland, TX in 1951 working and raising their family in Midland.  Veda worked at Midland Memorial Hospital and managed a large apartment complex and also a local retail store.  Her joys were her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild.  Holidays were her favorite times of the year and were always a big production & decorations were grand!!
Her homemade desserts, turkey & dressing, chicken & dumplings were some of her favorites.  The name “MOMO”  will be remembered by not only her family but also by those who knew her and loved her.  Preceded in death by her parents, son, Lanny D. Davis; Granddaughter, Shawna Graham & all of her siblings.

Survivors include her children, Sandra (Davis) & J.D. Hanson of Midland, TX, Allen Davis & Teresa (Davis) & Lucky Graham of Poteau, OK; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; other relatives, loved ones and friends. 

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, July 17, 2014 in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Stephanie Davis-Reed officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Jose Chavez, Derek Chavez, Jace Morris, Billy Potter, Tyler Collier & Brian Davis.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Crenshaw &  Fernando Gutierrez.

Virginia Louise Wade Tomlinson, 75, of Panama, OK went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 13 2014 in  Ft. Smith, AR.  Virginia was born April 7, 1939 in Bokoshe, OK to Samuel Leslie & Edith (Sutton) Morgan.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & sister.  She was a member of First Step of Faith Church in Poteau, OK.  Virginia  was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Wade; son, Tommy Wade; daughter, Jackie Byrd; grandson, Jay Walls; her parents & sister, Donna Bush.
       Survivors include her husband Ken of the home; daughters, Barbara Brook of Tulsa, OK, Patty Walls of Jay, OK; son, Buddy Wade of Panama, OK; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 6 brothers & 4 sisters; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Phyllis Sue Newnam, 64, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 in Poteau.  Sue was born July 17, 1949 in Poteau, OK to Odie T. & Wanda (Clemmings) Slone.  She was a homemaker.  Sue was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Wister, OK.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & sister.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Grady "Dick" Aary



Grady Eugene “Dick” Aary, 88, of Flower Hill, OK passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 in Flower Hill.  Dick was born April 17, 1926 in Bokoshe, OK to William “Day” & Ethel (Aldridge) Aary.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Dick owned a body shop.  He was a member of the Bethel Light House Full Gospel Church in Panama, OK.  He was a deacon most of his adult life. No better man ever walked on the face of this earth.  Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Aileene (LeFlore) Aary; his parents; brother, Earskin Aary; grandson, Rocky Calhoun; great granddaughter, Joyce Calhoun; great grandson, Jason Hudlow.

Randy Dewayne Shelton, 54, of  Monroe, OK passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Monroe.  Randy was born September 16, 1959 in Poteau, OK to Gene & Lena (Byrd) Shelton.  He was maintenance supervisor for OK Foods.  Randy was a hard worker & took care of his family.  He lived for his grandsons.  Randy was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, RaeLena Shelton; brothers, Bob & Billy Gene Shelton.

Edward Henry Cobb, 71, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 in Poteau.  Edward was born October 10, 1942 in Enid, OK to John Henry & Ruth Marguerite (Carlisle) Cobb.  He was a mechanic.  Edward was a veteran of the US Air Force.  He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Edward Lee Cobb; 1 sister, Ellen Fauver.
He and Betty Fenwick were married on July 30, 1960.

Grace R. Huss, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 in Poteau.  Grace was born October 19, 1922 in Williams, OK to Martin L. & Frances A. (Moore) Stankewitz.  Grace was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Grace was a provider for DHS.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Garthur Dorsey Huss on April 5, 1998, 3 sisters & 3 brothers.
