Allen Lynn Kinsey



Allen Lynn Kinsey, 57, of Howe, OK passed away Friday, August 29, 2014  in Poteau.  Allen was born February 2, 1957 in Poteau, OK to Abe & Billie Dean (Ladd) Kinsey. Allen was a beloved father, husband, brother and son; born and raised in Poteau, OK. He worked most of his life as an oilfield driller and was an exceptional mechanic.  He is preceded in death by his father; brother, James (Jim) Kinsey.

He leaves behind his mother, Billie Dean; his love of nine years, Courtney Gibson; brothers, Billy Joe, Michael R., Larry D., Charles T. & Karen Kinsey, Loyd R. Kinsey & Teresa Cherry; sisters, Frances & Al Sisco, Carolyn & Steve Schreibvogel, Cynthia & Walter Waldridge, Sonya Kinsey-Calhoun; three children, Angela Dawn & Rudy Martinez, Amanda Dawn Kinsey, David Allen Kinsey; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild on the way; too many nieces & nephews to count that loved him dearly.  We all hand him back over to his father in heaven with joy, peace and love.

Visitation will be from  9 am until service time at 11 am, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church, Poteau, OK.


Anna Mae "Tootie" Alfred



Anna Mae “Tootie” Alfred, passed away August 29, 2014 in Tulsa.  She was 87 years old.  Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred of Poteau; her parents, Steve Sr. & Letha Garrett of Poteau, OK; sister, Alma Taylor of Wilburton, OK and brother, Steve Garrett Jr. of Poteau.   Tootie, a lifetime resident of Poteau, was a homemaker.  She was known for her beautiful table settings, her apricot brandy cake & her dependability when a friend was sick.  Tootie loved a cold beer on a hot day, a good tenor voice and the Oklahoma Sooners.  Her family celebrates her long, independent life.



Tootie is survived by her son, Jim Alfred, daughter in law, Paula Alfred, and granddaughter, Sarah Alfred, all of whom reside in Tulsa, OK.  Tootie is also survived by her two nieces, Kathy Cook of Bethany, OK and Lynda Garrett of Tulsa, OK; great nieces Kadie Cook-Goldstein of Tulsa and Kalie Cook of Stillwater, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 11 am, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. 



The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.


Jerry Parnell



Jerry Wayne Parnell, 69, of Pocola, OK passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Jerry was born March 8, 1945 in Ft. Smith to Frank & Beatrice (Gregory) Parnell.  He was a truck driver. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.   Jerry was a member of Pocola Assembly of God Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of the home;   3 daughters, Regina Moore of Greenwood, AR, Carla Whitlock of Van Buren, AR, Tina Mathis of Bentonville, AR; stepson, Harper Billingsley of Alma, AR; brother, Jimmy Parnell of Buford, GA; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola, OK.  Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola.  Pallbearers will be Richard Whitlock, Jimmy Parnell, Cody Mathis, Paul Guilliam, Phil Smith, Kenneth Mathis, Bob Satterfield, Chuck Johnson.

Dick Wilkerson

Harold Richard “Dick” Wilkerson, 81, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Poteau.  Dick was born August 3, 1933 in Rogersville, MO to Samp & Eva (Turner) Wilkerson.  He was an educator from 1961 – 1988 when he retired.   He was a veteran of the US Army where he served in Korea.  He continued his service in the National Guard for 7 years.  He was Poteau Chamber President in 1988 and also received the Man of the Year Award in 1988.  Dick was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Rogersville, MO.  Preceded in death by his parents; sister Sandra Richard & brother, Martin Wilkerson.

Suvivors include his wife of 58 years, Ardith Ann; daughter, Cheryl Ann Burleigh of Weatherford, OK; son & daughter in law, Scott & Joann Wilkerson of Stevensville, MD; grandchildren, Jane Ann Wilkerson of Washington, DC, Wyatt Wilkerson & Samantha Mason of Stevensville, MD, Laura Ann Burleigh of Weatherford, OK; great grandchild, Mia Wilkerson of Washington, DC;  sisters, Helen Gray, Betty Watkins of Springfield, MO, Debbie Abney of Republic, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, students, teachers and friends.

Services will be 10 am Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the First Christian Church, Poteau with Rev. Gary Vancil & Rev. Phil McGehee officiating.  Pallbearers will be Jim Burleigh, David Butler, Harry Tustin, Kendall Ballew, Larry Hall, Gary Flowers. Ronny Blake, Lynn Lockhart & Don Baetz.

The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Danielle Renee Jennings, 15, of Wister, OK passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 in Wister.  Danielle was born July 20, 1999 in Little Rock, AR to Daniel Ray & Christina Marie (Horne) Jennings.  She was a student at Wister Schools.

Amanda Jackson



Amanda Dawn Jackson, 35, of Howe, OK passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 in Howe.  Amanda was born December 12, 1978 in Ft. Smith, AR to Ronnie & Patsy (House) Brown.   Amanda was a fighter, loving life.  She was a loving daughter & sister.  She loved her animals and sharing God’s message with everyone.  Amanda was preceded in death by her father, Ronnie Brown; sister, Tammy Brown; uncle, Donald Brown; aunt, Sue; cousin, Betsie Kelley; both Brown & House Grandparents.

Charles Durant


 Charles Wallace Durant, 76, of Poteau, OK passed away, Thursday, August 21, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.  Charles was born April 21, 1938 in Gilmore, OK to Walter & Cleo (Virgil) Durant.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Charles was formerly the transportation superviser for Poteau Public Schools.   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jo (10/12/2010); brothers, Carl, R.C. Johnny & Walter; sisters, Jean Bass & Pearl Bost.



He is survived by his children, Joseph Durant of Tulsa, OK, Rita Schroeder of MI, Monica Peter of Randlemon, NC, Frank Crane of Poteau, OK, Douglas Crane of Tulsa, OK, Charles R. Durant, Debbie Sarpy, of Poteau, OK, Sherry Ross of Muldrow, OK, Gaibral Durant of Poteau, , foster children; Shawna Buenivedies of Hugo, OK, & Dylan Sweeten of Spiro, OK; many grand and great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Huddleston of Oklahoma City, Carolyn & Archie Baca of Poteau, OK; brother, Paul Nichols of Poteau, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Jay Hicks



Jay Earl Hicks, 65, of Cameron, OK passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 in Cameron.  Jay was born February 24, 1949 in Poteau, OK to J.C. & Lavisa (Howery) Hicks.  He was a rancher.  Jay was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Rita Blair & Betty Perry. 

Survivors include his wife, Lillie of the home; daughter, Christy Johnson of Boulder, CO; sons, Steve Hicks & Jud Whitehead of Cameron, OK; brothers, John Hicks of Dallas, TX and Jerry Hicks of Cameron, OK; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; other relatives, loved ones; many friends.

Frank Dehart



Frank Dehart, 87, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Frank was born July 11, 1927 in Poteau, OK to Walter & Ethel Dehart.  Frank graduated high school in 1945 and joined the US Navy.  He got a business degree from Southeastern College in Durant.  He was employed by Kerr Industries, owned and operated by the late Senator Robert S. Kerr & family from 1957 until 2009 (some 50+years).  He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Central National Bank in 1972 and served until his passing.  He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge; and served on the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.  He was President & Vice Pres. Of Green Country in the 1970’s; an active member in many civic organizations throughout his lifetime as well as being a member of the First United Methodist Church and was the oldest ‘attending’ member.  Frank was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, 1 sister, Genevieve Pritner,  daughter, Ann Carsello, & son in law, Roger Ridley.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Grace of the home; daughters, Kathy  & David Vonder Heide  of Ft. Smith, AR, Carolyn Ridley of Ft. Smith, AR, Janell & Buzz Glover of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Lisa & Jimmy Parrish, Chris & Becky Vonder Heide of Ft. Smith, AR, Jill & Justin Crenshaw of Dallas, TX, Ryan Clayburn of Washington DC, Michael Carsello of Houston, TX, Keely Carsello, Jonathan & Jordan Marquez, Amanda & Alicia Hall of Poteau, OK; great grandchildren, Katelyn Parrish & Gavin Vonder Heide; chosen daughters, Christie Williams of Hot Springs, AR, Dee Carsello of Poteau; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Douglas Neil Byrd, 21, of Spiro, OK passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.  Doug was born January 18, 1993 in Poteau, OK to Donald & Diana (Bradshaw) Byrd.  He was manager at Burger King.  Doug was preceded in death by 2 sisters & brother, Raven Byrd, Skylar Carpenter & Hunter Pylant Carpenter; grandfathers, Hayden Byrd & Glen Long.



Survivors include his mother, Diana Wiles of the home; father, Donald & Cheree Byrd; brother, Brandon Mackey of TN; sisters; Stefanie & Jason Ivey of Wister, OK; Christyl Morgan of the home; Niece, Stormie Ivey; grandmothers, Sue Nave of Poteau, OK, Brenda Long of CA; great grandparents, George & Faye Weaver Panama, OK, Gnieve Benson of Marietta, OK; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives & many, many friends.

Joe Randall

Joe Allison Randall, 64, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR.  Joe was born February 28, 1950 in Talihina, OK to Joel &       Eria Mae (Sockey) Randall.  Joe grew up in the Talihina/Buffalo Valley area until such time that he joined the US Army at the age of 19.  Joe was a proud Choctaw and highly decorated combat veteran of the US Army and most proud of his service in the 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his heroism and valliant service.  He was a member of the Choctaw Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 


Joe was much loved husband, father, and “Poppy”.  He will be remembered for his kind heart and giving spirit.  He never met a stranger and was always willing to help others.  Some of our most treasured memories are of his time spent with his grandkids.  Whether it was a trip to Disney World or fishing in the pond out back, time spent with Poppy was always an adventure. 


Survivors include his wife of 43 years,  Ruby; son & daughter in law, Jerry & Becky Randall of Muskogee, OK; daughters & sons in law, Patricia & Sidney Skinner of Washington, DC, Debbie & Chris Mason of Howe, OK; grandchildren,  Sarah, Joseph & Leigha Randall, Allison Kelley, Eric, Charlie & Madison Skinner, Jolie & Putman Tucker; siblings, Joel, Jerry & Jan Randall,  Kenneth  Perry & Jean Lates; other relatives, loved ones & friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry & sister, Joanne Gabersack.


  

Services will be 10 am, Monday, August 25, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK.   Interment with full military honors will follow at 1 pm in the Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, AR. 


Ruth (Treat) Pickering



Ruth Ann Pickering, 66, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Ruth was born July 25, 1948 in McAlester, OK to Allen Newton & Anna Belle (Rice) Southard.  She was a retired seamstress, rancher, wife, mother & grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her late husband, Charley Treat, and siblings, Doyle & Richard Southard and Grace Testa.



Ruth is survived by her husband, Ed Pickering of Bokoshe, OK; five children, Beverly McCutchan & husband Fred of Poteau, OK, Charles Treat of El Reno, OK, Misty Treat of Phoenix, AZ, Dustin Treat & wife Stacey of Bokoshe, OK, Justin Treat & wife Stephanie of Bokoshe, OK; two brothers, Clarence Southard & wife Kitty of Owasso, OK, Kenneth Southard & wife Maxine of McAlester, OK; sisters, Dorothy Todd & husband Carl, Clara Garcia all of McAlester, OK, Alice Day & husband Laurence of Douglas, GA; nine grandchildren, Keith Treat, Carley McCutchan, Brayden Treat, Hailey Treat, Austin Treat, Landon Treat, Anna Treat, Alexander Treat, & Seth Treat; numerous nieces & nephews; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Scotty Loyd



Scotty James Loyd, 55, of Summerfield, OK passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Summerfield.  Scotty was born June 10, 1959 in Ft. Sill, OK to Curtis C. & Reba L. (Cox) Loyd.  He worked for the Choctaw Nation.  Scotty was preceded in death by his mother and sister in law, Linda Loyd.   He was a member of the Summerfield Church of Christ where he was the song leader for over 20 years.  Scotty loved to fish, float fish, & ride his Gold Wing.  Scotty ALWAYS remembered birthdays with a card.

Survivors include his father, Curtis; siblings, Peggy & Jerry Wiser, Ray Loyd, Stanley & Janice Loyd, Tracy & Daphne Loyd all of Summerfield, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Friday, August 22, 2014 at Summerfied Church of Christ  with  Curtis Curry officiating.  Pallbearers will be Eugene Loyd, Toney Patterson, Wesley Williams, Lonnie Wayne Williams, Mike Cox, Joseph Cox.  Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Wiser, Leonard Earls & Christopher Loyd.

Margaret Bryant



Margaret Louise Bryant, 92, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Poteau.  Margaret was born August 8, 1922 in Paris, TX to Arthur Earl & Mattie Louise (Ramsey) Wallace.  She was a cook at the Sheriff’s Office in Carlsbad, NM.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bryant of Carlsbad.



Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Gray of Poteau, OK, Samantha Hill & husband John of TX; son, James Copeland & wife Irene of NC; grandchildren, Lorraine & Morgan Gibbs, Michael & Bettina Gray, Jimmy D. Copeland, Teddy Lee Copeland, Billy Joe Copeland; great grandchildren, Casey & Kevin Stine, Terrence Gray, Robin Gray, Riley Dawn Stine;  special friend, Janet Marler; other relatives, loved ones & friends.

Collier C. Orr



Collier C. Orr, 97, of Panama, OK passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Poteau, OK.  Collier was born July 29, 1917 in DeQueen, AR to Charles & Ethel (Smith) Orr.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII receiving Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and good conduct medal.  Collier retired from Civil Service in 1974.  He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Orr.  He loved to fish & hunt with his grandchildren.   He and Ruth (Campbell) were married for 37 years.



Survivors include his wife Ruth of the home; daughters, Juanita McKinney of Weleetka, OK, Linda Riebeiro of Benicia, CA; stepsons, Tommy Little of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Brad Little of Norman, OK; Rodney Riebeiro & numerous other grandchildren & great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones & friends.



Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, August 20, 2014  at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow.

George Edward Gage Jr.



George Edward Gage Jr., 65, of Wister, OK passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in Wister.  George was born June 12, 1949 in Concord, New Hampshire to George Edward Sr. & Flora Lucille (Follansbee) Gage.  He retired after working  for the State of New Hampshire for over 20 years.    He was a volunteer fireman in Loudon, NH for 10 years.  George enjoyed horseback riding and riding his Gold Wing motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.  He enjoyed music and playing his guitar. 

Survivors include his wife, Marie D. Gage of the home; sons, George E. Gage III & wife Donna of Wister, OK, Peter Sidney Gage & wife Debra of Nashua, NH; brother in law, William S. Davis of Enfield, NH; stepbrother, Danny Dwinnells & wife Patricia of Loudon, NH; 4 grandchildren; 1 nephew; numerous cousins, aunts & uncles residing in New Hampshire.

Joyce E. Mitchell, 66, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR.  Joyce was born November 16, 1947 in McCroy, AR to William Tobe Sr. & Georgia (Hoots) Holt.  She was a postal clerk.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sister in law, Vicki Holt; brothers, William Jr., Ed & James Holt.  She was a longtime postal employee in Poteau, OK.  She was loved by many in the community for going above & beyond.  She loved her children and grandchildren; traveling and the ocean.  Joyce was a member of Hosanna Fellowship.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Christopher Meredith and Chuck Meredith of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Samantha Meredith, Jarod Meredith, Thomas Meredith, Mollie Miller and Jackie Meredith all of Poteau; great grandson, Landon LaGrand; brother, Richard Holt of San Pablo, CA; sister, Mamie Ruth Bell of Hartford, AR; 2 lifelong friends., Sharon Cate & Dorothy Mathews.

Georgia R. Kerbow


Georgia Ruth Kerbow, 80, of Poteau, OK died Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  She was retired from the LeFlore County Clerks office, a member of Woman Nationally Active for Christ, Epsilon Sigma Alpha and Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church in Poteau, OK.  Georgia was born Jun 17, 1934 in Poteau, OK to Herman & Elenor (Johnson) Dorey.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kerbow; sister, JoAnne Broyles; and her parents.



She is survived by one  daughter, Kendra & her husband David Fanning of Ft. Smith, AR; one granddaughter, Alyssa Fanning; one grandson, Logan Fanning; one brother, Tim Dorey and his wife Barbara of Poteau, OK; three nephews, Trent Dorey, Jeff Broyles and his wife Jennifer and their children Landry & Camden, Gary Don Ford and his wife Darla and their children, Ronnie, Josh and Alex; two nieces, Kay Ollie and her husband Gary, and Trayce Riley and her children, Tony Earl and Tristin, one brother in law, Jack Broyles; and one sister in law, Anita Barber; numerous other relatives, loved ones, church family and friends.

Harrell Vise



 Harrell James Vise, 85, of Spiro, OK passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Harrell was born October 18, 1928 in Howe, OK to Vernis & Audrey (Allen) Vise.  He worked as street superintendent in Fort Worth, TX.  Harrell was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Spiro.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Buddy.



Survivors include his wife, Imogene of the home; daughters, Lynda Vise Stinson & husband Hank of Josephine, TX, Carolyn Bentley & husband Danny of Orange, TX; sons, Kenneth Vise & wife Marilyn of Springtown, TX, Terry Vise & wife Sharon of Spiro, OK; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Jones of Midwest City, OK; brothers, Cecil of Missouri, Carrell of Garden City, TX and Danny of Midwest City, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.



Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Lakeview Baptist Church in Spiro, OK with Rev. Greg Stuckey and Rev. Marty Darneal officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. 



The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Ray Rush



Ray Rush, 85, of Pocola, OK passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Ray was born May 16, 1929 in Midland, AR to Jack & Clementine (Burkett) Rush.  He was a pentecostal minister.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers & 3 sisters.


Survivors include his wife, Shellie Rae of the home; son, Elton Rush; daughter Evanell & Tony Jones all of Pocola, OK; 2 great grandchildren, Payton Jones and Zac Jones; other relatives, loved ones & friends.



Services will be 10 am Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Roger Mattox officiating.  Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola, OK.  Pallbearers will be Billy Schmidt, Paul Krull, Michael Miller, Mark Fuller, Roy McCain, Tony Jones.

L. Louise Earls



 Luveda Louise Earls, 92, of Summerfield, OK  passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 in Ponca City, OK.  Louise was born January 10, 1922 in Reichert/Summerfield, OK to John Christopher & Ora (White) Cox.  She was a homemaker.  Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Earls; her parents; brothers, Orbria,  Ivan, Dale, John Jr. and Harold Cox; sister, Reba Loyd.



She is survived by her daughter Sharon Stewart of Ponca City, OK; son, Leonard Earls of Summerfield, OK;  4 grandchildren, Tammy Allison, Amanda Theriot, Caleb Allison & Alicia Earls; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Freda Barrick of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers, Jim Cox of Bonita Springs, FL, Sherman Cox of Oklahoma City,  Delton Cox of Pocola, OK,; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday August 5, 2014  at Summerfield Church of Christ with Curtis Curry officiating.  Interment will follow in Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, OK.
