Lula Mae Myers

Lula Mae Myers, 94, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 in Poteau. Lula was born July 31, 1917 to Clarence & Nellie (Pate) Shrum in Hartford, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Myers; son, Jackie Neal Myers, and grandson, Ricky Neal Myers; her parents three brothers & 1 sister. Lula was an elementary teacher for 30 years, pianist, teacher and VBS Director at church, a member of the Poteau Church of the Nazarene. She was an active participant of Compassionate Ministries through music at the Oaks Healthcare Center. As long as she was able, she enjoyed writing articles and sharing them in the Poteau Daily News and Sun. Survivors include her daughter Frances Boevers and husband John; 4 granddaughters & 1 grandson, Debra Myers Gentry and husband, Matt, Melissa Myers Ward & husband, Ron, Stephanie Myers Free & husband Johnny, Ginger Boevers and Nicholas Boevers. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan and Rece Ward, Tyler Westerfield, Brittany, Chasity & J.P. Free, Crystal Boevers, Chance Hailey and sister Irene Shrum. Services will be 1 pm, Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Pallbearers will be Ryan Ward, Nicholas Boevers, Tyler Westerfield, Ron Ward, Johnny Free, and John Boevers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons, Int’l. As Lula said, “Flowers pass away but God’s word never passes away.”

Prayers go out to Lula's family. She was a wonderful woman that I enjoyed caring for. She told me so many stories and I will always have those memories. God bless.
