Burl Damon Andrews

Burl Damon Andrews, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 in Talihina, OK. Burl was born December 27, 1921 in Booneville, AR to Charles Monroe and Pearl (Porter) Andrews. Burl was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau. Burl owned and operated Swiss Cleaners for some 40 years. He was a past member of Poteau Kiwanis Club & Poteau Rotary Club. He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Burl coached American Legion Baseball winning the State Championship in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents & beloved wife Lavonne in June 2000. Survivors include his daughter & son in law, Carol & Donald Allen of Tulsa, OK; son & daughter in law, Rick & Carolyn Andrews of Poteau, OK; 5 grandchildren, Jerry Don Allen, Kristin Andrews Harrison, Angela Buckner, Tracy Andrews Payton, Charlie Andrews; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Frances Carmen of McAlester, OK, Sandra Palmer of Greenwood, AR. Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee and Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau. Pallbearers will be Bob Free, Ronnie Riggs, David Robertson, Gary Furr, Kelly Hughes, & Rick Couri.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Andrews (Coach)passing. I would like to express my heartfelt "Thanks" for his giving me a chance to play American Legion Baseball at Poteau back in 1966 summer and getting to go on to college. He had a most positive effect on my life.
