Elton Edward Thompson
Elton Edward Thompson, 86, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Poteau. Elton was born August 29, 1925 in Harmony, OK to Lucian & Minnie (Fouts) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents,and son, Larry Thompson; his sister & brothers. Elton was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He served in WWII in the South Pacific on Okinawa & Peleliu Island; in action in defense of New Guinea; Cape Gloucester, New Britain; occupation of China. Elton graduated from Wister High School; did his undergraduate work at OSU and received his law degree from the University of Arkansas in 1951. He practiced law in LeFlore County for 61 years.Elton was an avid gardener. He always insisted that birthdays must be celebrated with cake and ice cream.
Survivors include his wife Dorene; sons & daughters in law, Glenn E. & Sandy Thompson of Poteau, OK, Wesley & Candace Thompson of Sapulpa, OK; former daughter in law, Frances Thompson; 6 grandchildren, Cheryl Arnall, Brian Thompson, Randie Thompson, Kelli Thompson, Candace Thompson, Leslie Mariah Thompson; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.
Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will follow.
