Bonnie Lucille Mooneyham, 93, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at her home. Lucille was born November 25, 1928 in Bokoshe, OK to Hosea & Ada Didway. Lucille’s mother, Ada passed away about 6 months later. Hosea & Lucille moved to live with his mother and Lucille lived with her until her Grandma passed away. Her father had married Nora Green and they soon had a son, Kennith Didway.
Lucille and her family lived in Bokoshe, Cameron, Peachland (Bengal) and Rock Island. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1946. Lucille married William “Bill” Mooneyham August 3, 1946. A friend took them to Ft. Smith to get married. Even though Bill had spent time in the Navy in WWII, he still wasn’t 21 years old, so his mother wrote a note saying, “I give permission for my son to marry Lucille”. Two years later Bill & Lucille welcomed their first child, Jeannie Gail. Five years after that their second daughter, Joyce, was born. Jeannie passed away at the age of 7 years. Their son, William “Ronny” and daughter, Cheryl, arrived during the next few years.
Lucille raised the children and took care of the home until the mid 1960’s. Then she went to work at Hamlin’s Mfg. Company. Even though she sewed all week, she still did a full-time job at home and made most of the clothes for Joyce & Cheryl.
After retiring from Hamlin’s, Lucille volunteered at the hospital, working the information desk and sewing many teddy bears to be given to sick children.
Bill & Lucille enjoyed their grandchildren & great grandchildren. She fed many friends throughout the years and everyone knew she was a great cook. She also served as treasurer of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church where she has been a faithful member since 1954.
On August 11, 2017, Lucille said a final goodbye to the love of her life, Bill. God called Lucille home Saturday, January 8 at her home in Poteau. She was welcomed at Heaven’s Gate by Bill, Jeannie, and so many other family members and loved ones.
Lucille is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Kenneth) House, Cheryl Brown; son, William Ronald (Kellie) Mooneyham; her grandchildren, Kendall House, Kevin (Heather) House, Kyle (Laura) House, Justin (Tyanna) Savage, Chris (Amanda) James, Chelcci (Derek) Stapleton and Abby Ives; also, great grandchildren, Jonathan, Leslie Dean, Kylie, Preslie, Cade, Maycci, Sawyer, Aaron, Kensley and Kira.
