Sylvia Tanksley



Sylvia J. Tanksley, 78, of  Pocola, OK passed away  Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Fort Smith, AR.  Sylvia was born May 19, 1938 in Calhoun, OK to Charles M. & Bertha Ann (Newcomb) Fout.  She was retired as a  secretary at First National Bank, Ft. Smith.  Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold;  brother, Dolin Fout & wife Opal; sister, Doris Bates &  husband Jay.

Survivors include her son, Rick & Donna Tanksley of Arkoma, OK; grandchildren, Chasiti Dominic & husband Jesse of Roland, OK  and Rick Jr . & wife Crystal of Hackett, AR; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Sybil Monks of Panama, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Evans Chapel in Pocola.
Interment will  follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ft. Smith, AR.  Pallbearers will be Caleb, Jacob, Seth, Gabriel, & Ethan, her great grandsons also Shawn Bullard & Randy Fout.

The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Shirley Armstrong



Shirley Joann Armstrong, 77 of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Poteau.  Shirley was born August 2, 1939 in Deering, MO to Albert Brooks & Zelma Roena (Pace) Townley.  She was a Walmart Associate before she retired;  loved seeing all her friends while she was there.  Shirley loved Bluegrass & country music  and attending concerts.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debbie Louise Armstrong; siblings, Betty, Jerry, Martha, Brenda, Albert Junior, & Alonzo Jackson Townley.



Survivors include her husband of 59 years Jack of the home; children, Dianne Armstrong of Poteau, OK, Donna Young of Fayetteville, AR, Jacky Ray Armstrong II & wife Terry of Poteau; brother, Marlon Townley & sister, Linda Ryan of Teague, TX; 9 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Saturday, August 27,  2016 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Revs. Jim Cook &  LeRoy Billy officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons.



The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Patsy Fox Swiney



           Patsy C. Fox Swiney, 82, of Panama, OK passed away Tuesday, August 23,  2016 in Panama, OK.  Patsy was born January 15, 1934 in Buck Creek, OK to George & Ada (Kinsey) Currens.  She was the owner/operator of the local Exxon Station.  She attended the  Church of Christ.  Patsy was preceded in death by husband, Bobby N. Fox.
          Survivors include her husband, William T. Swiney; children, Lisa & Mick Gast, Laurie & Rod Boivin, Linda & John Kaquatosh, Jimmy & Meralyn Swiney, Tommy & Percy Swiney; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
             The family extends a heartfelt thanks to her hospice family, Amber, Shea, Tammy, Katie & Dr. Gorman.
             Services will be 10 am, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Greenhill Cemetery Pavilion, Cameron, OK.

Virginia Mae Leiper

   Virginia Mae Leiper  94 of Spiro, OK passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Spiro, OK.  Virginia was born August 13, 1922 in Howe, OK to Jeff & Effie Thelma (Turner) Faulkenberry.  She was a homemaker; preceded in death by three husbands, 5 sisters, & 4 brothers. 
 

         Survivors include her daughter, Margie Mitchell of Pocola, OK; son, Frank Hopkins of Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and brother, Dude Faulkenberry of Coweta, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

      Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Larry Stacy officiating.  Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, Howe, OK.

     The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Joe K. Thomas



Joe K. Thomas Jr., 83, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Poteau.  Joe K. was born October 1, 1932 in Quinton, OK to Joe Kenneth Sr. & Evelyn (Rushing) Thomas.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Joe K. was a 1950 graduate of Poteau High School.  He received his BS at the University of Oklahoma and his DDS at Kansas City University Dental School.  Joe K. practiced dentistry in Poteau for 51 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents & daughter, Amanda Thomas Cole.



Survivors include his wife, Rita of the home; daughters, Susan Thomas Mixon of Ft. Smith, AR, Katie Hopper of Poteau, OK; son, Joe Kenneth Thomas III  & wife Sonja of Poteau, OK;  grandchildren, Joshua Mixon, Sarah Mixon, Mallory Mixon and John Thomas Cole, Jessika McAllister, Travis McAllister & Kelly McAllister; numerous cousins; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Memorial services will be 11 am, Friday,  August 26, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Perkin officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be Virginia Stanley, Carol Smith, Buzz Glover, Gary Johnston, & Doug Sanders Jr.

KENNETH GENE NICHOLS



Kenneth Gene Nichols, 65, of Cameron, OK passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Kenneth was born April 24, 1951 in Pocola, OK to Harold & Dortha (Sweeten) Nichols.  He was a plumber, preacher, and pastor.



Survivors include his sons, Luke Nichols & wife, Kristin of Mena, AR, Eric Nichols of Cameron, OK; grandchildren, Tanner & Nok Lehmann of Wichita, KS, Karley Newsom & Tracer Newsom of Mena, AR; sisters, Cathy Lovell of Pocola, OK, Shirley Hess & husband Clyde of Poteau, OK; brother, Hank Nichols of Laverne, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK with Luke Nichols officiating.  Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, OK.  Pallbearers will be Luke & Eric Nichols, Nick Hess, Eddie Poston, Gabe Haynes and Roger Crandell.



The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
