Mary James

 

          Mary Ellen James, 68, of Shady Point, OK passed away November 24, 2020 at her home.  Mary was born May 6, 1952 in Santa Maria, CA to Emmett & Bessie (Cauldwell) Clough.  She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, J.B. Clough, Pearl Britton, Loreane Walker, Barbara Belknap.


          Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Charles; daughters, Amanda Walden & fiancĂ© Joseph Kilpatrick; Kimberly Hutchinson & Toby; grandchildren, Seth Hutchinson, Khloe Ann Walden, Elijah Lane Kilpatrick.

Florance Goins


Florance Ella (Huddleston Goins, 102, of Poteau passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020.  Florance was born September 6, 1918 in Poteau to Vander Bell & Pollie (Gibson) Huddleston.  She was an only child and lived in this area all her life.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 53 years Bill Henry Goins.  They had one child, Peggy.  Florance never had a middle name.  In grade school she noticed most everyone did.  When she was in 8th grade she gave herself one, “Ella”.  Peggy found it written in an old 8th grade school book and asked her about it.

          Survivors include her daughter Peggy Sue and son in law Warner L. Baxter of Poteau, and 2 grandsons, LT. Colonel Timothy L. Baxter and wife Elaine Renee (Jones) of Little Rock, AR; and Dr. Nathan Cody Baxter of Poteau, OK; also 2 great granddaughters, Emma Renee & Everly Rose.

          Mrs. Goins was a retired teacher of 34 years beginning her career early in 1942 with a World War II Emergency Certificate.  She was a member of the Alpha Chi Sorority while in college and later Alpha Delta Kappa International Teacher’s Sorority and the Retired Teacher’s Association, F.C.E., Extension Homemakers “Poteau Pearls”, the Laughing Ladies Quilting Club and (for a while) Rebekahs.

          Florance accepted Christ as a teenager during a revival at Sugar Loaf Church and attended church at Fairview School House where her mother taught Sunday School and later where Mrs. Goins taught school.  Since November 1956, she became and remained an active member of the Double Branch Baptist Church.

          Florance loved her church family and friends as well as loving and spending time with her family.  She enjoyed working her flower beds and always had a green thumb, enjoyed reading sewing and cooking which she did very well!  She also loved to send greeting cards to family and friends and to keep in touch.

          Services will be 10 am Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Double Branch Church, Poteau.

          Because of Covid, family requests no one put themselves in harms way by trying to attend.  No hand shaking, no huggins, no meals will be served.  So many were at 100th birthday party and that meant the most when she saw, visited and knew.  Viewing will be at the funeral home and at church before the service begins.  Then the casket will be closed.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude’s or Double Branch Baptist Church. (Her church for 65 years).

 

Della Bledsoe


Della Nunley Bledsoe, 95, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Born March 17, 1925 to Ross and Lizzie Nunley, Della was the ninth of 16 children.  She helped raise the last half of the children.  She outlived them all. 

Della was married for seventeen years to Marion Holden.  At their separation he took the credit cards out of her purse and left her with only a grade school education, $20.00, and two teenage children. 

Della acquired her GED, was a cosmetologist, a waitress, a real estate agent, and a nurse’s aide.  Over the years she ventured into real estate buying and personally fixing up seven low income houses and carried a contract for deed on six.  

Della is survived by son Raymond Holden (Melba) of Dallas Texas, daughter Elizabeth Ann Fryberger (Richard) of Duluth, Minnesota; granddaughter Laura Mullen (Colin) and great granddaughter Adella Elizabeth Mullen.

A graveside service at Milton Cemetery will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2020.

Kevin Jordan

Arthur “Kevin” Jordan, 45, of Pocola, OK passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at his home.  Kevin was born December 13, 1974 in La Mirada, CA to Henry Harold & Marilyn Kay (Wilson) Jordan.  He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Tim Pounder.

 Survivors include his wife Carmelita; son, Kevin Tyler Jordan; brothers, Henry Harold Jordan Jr., Jerry Jordan, D.J. Jordan & Randall Moriss; sisters, Marilyn Louque, Tracey Jordan & Stacey Alford; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

 Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK with Jim Cook officiating.  Burial will be in Dustin Cemetery on Wednesday. Honorary pallbearers will be Zack Boyd, John Jordan, James Jordan, Hunter Northcutt, Stormy DuBach & Ashley Jordan. The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Monday from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Robert Matherly

Robert James Riley Matherly, 81, of Pocola, OK passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Pocola.  Robert was born May 11, 1939 in Hillsdale, KY.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force; an electrical engineer and a school teacher.   He was preceded in death by his mother and wife, Nita Haynes Matherly.

 Survivors include his wife, Bobbie; children, Greg Matherly & Cricket of Holts Summit, MO; Annette Staats & Jeff of Monroe, OK, Sandra Williams & Curtis of Decherd, TN; Jimmy Blevins & Jolene of Lone Oak, TX, Chris Blevins & Annette;  29 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

 Services will be 10 am, Monday, November 30, 2020 at Victory Worship Center in Spiro, OK with Bryan Fouts officiating.  Burial will be at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Lisbon, LA.  Pallbearers will be Jeffery Staats, Layne Blevins, Josh Stallings, Terry Scott, Greg Smith, Curtis Williams.  Honorary pallbearers will be Colin Matherly & Dustin Dollar.

 The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

 

Jim Yarbrough

James “Jim”  Clarence Yarbrough, 74, of Poteau, OK entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 from his home in  Poteau.  James was born September 9, 1946 in Scranton, AR to Everette & Mary (Hammock) Yarbrough.  He was a heavy equipment operator.  James was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Darren, Sister, Jane Varnell and Brother, Herman Yarbrough.

 Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Betty; sons & daughters in law, Bobby Yarbrough of Harrison, AR, Kevin & Diane Yarbrough of Poteau, OK, Joey & Stacy Yarbrough of Hon, AR; sister, Janette Sanders of Russellville, AR; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

 Services will be 2 pm, Monday, November 30, 2020 graveside at Glendale Cemetery Pavilion with Jeff Jenson & Tim Sullivan officiating.  Pallbearers will be Jimmy Yarbrough, Sebastian Payne, Holden Gullick, Chad Yarbrough, Vinny Yarbrough, Mike Jefferson, Alex Herndon, Zach Herndon.
