Bobby Barnes



Bobby Gene Barnes, 78, of Okmulgee, OK (previously of Poteau) passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 in Okmulgee.  Bobby was born October 18, 1935 in Anna, TX to Ray & Mary (Henry) Barnes.   He was a truck driver.  Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.



Survivors include his wife Doris of the home; 4 sons & daughters in law, Steve & Patty Barnes of Okmulgee, OK, Jack & Virginia Barnes of Ft. Smith, AR, John Barnes and James Barnes of Arizona; numerous grand and great grandchildren; brother, David Barnes of Idaho; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Monday, January 6, 2014 graveside at Coaldale Cemetery, Coaldale, OK.    Interment will follow.  Pallbearers will be Eugene, Robert & Patrick Barnes, Dustin Howard.  Honorary pallbearers will be sons, Steve, Jack, John & James.  


Bertha Tackett



Bertha M. Tackett, 94, of Panama, OK passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Bertha was born December 12, 1919 in Williams, OK to Henry & Emma Darneal.  She worked in the school cafeteria.  Bertha attended the Panama Assembly of God Church.  She loved quilting, arts & crafts, and being a grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay Tackett; 2 sons, Norman & Larry; her parents; sisters, Doshie Butler, Lorene Murray & Jewel Ulmer; brothers, Leon, Richard, John & Ed Ray Darneal.



Survivors include her son, Donald R. Tackett of Panama, OK; 7 grandchildren, Richard A Tackett, Brian Tackett, Shannon Morrison, Tanya Newnam, Tamara Tackett, James Tackett, Paula Brandaver; 10 great grandchildren and a host of loving family members with one special little guy, Ryan Bird; sister, Betty Detamore; a very special family member that she loved dearly, James Key; several great great grandchildren; many, many friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with Rev. Brian Fouts officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron, OK.  Pallbearers will be Eddie Seaton, Harlen Hale, Ricky Darneal, Michael Morrison, Sean Morrison, & Randy McKinney.


David Pendleton



David Alan Pendleton, 54 of Pocola, OK passed away Saturday, December 29, 2013 in Pocola.  David was born January 25, 1959 in Ft. Smith, AR to Joe & Bonnie (Underwood) Pendleton.  David was a 1977 graduate of Pocola High School.  He was currently attending Designer Barber College in Ft. Smith, AR.  David was retired from Whirlpool.  David was preceded in death by his parents.

Shanna Hodges-Wann



Shanna Lynn Hodges-Wann, 46, of Hackett, AR passed away Friday, December 27, 2013. Shanna  was born May 26, 1967 in Iraan, TX to Cecil & Barbara (Kuchan) Hodges. 



Survivors include her  beautiful daughters, Alexis Leigh Mackey  and Bailey Jane Wann; sisters, Kenna “Sissy” Hodges of Wister, OK, Celia Jones of Pocola, OK; brothers, Tod Hodges and Cecil “Buz” Hodges of Hackett, AR; one niece, three nephews; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Alice Goff, 87, of Spiro, OK passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in Spiro.  Alice was born in Bennington, OK to William & Edith (Becktold) Garrett on May 30, 1926.  She was a homemaker.  Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Velton J. Goff; her parents; brothers & sisters and a son & daughter.



Survivors include her daughter, Donna Orantes of Ontario, CA; son, Jerry Goff of Noble, OK; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany Long, Rachael Smitheart, Stephanie Harrison, Adrian Banuelos, Damian Treijo, Cory Martinez; numerous great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jo McDonald of Ada, OK, Lois McFadden of Dewey, OK, Barbara White of Bartlesville, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Vera Staton, 88, of Poteau,  OK passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 in Poteau.  Vera was born November 26, 1925 in Ft. Smith, AR to Emory & Minnie (Dent) Copeland.  She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Staton on 2/25/2011; and brothers, Floyd, Billy Dean; sisters, Lois & Reba.



Survivors include her son, David Staton of Santa Maria, CA; daughter, Rose Lee Ary of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Kelly, Jared, Shawnee, Jesse; brothers, Claudie Copeland of Sallisaw, OK, Hulen Dale Copeland of Apache Junction, AZ; Leroy Copeland of Elk Horn, WI; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

William W. Willis



William W. Willis, 85, of  Poteau, OK passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  William was born June 6, 1928 in Stonega, VA to Harrison A. & Verta (Lawson) Willis.  He was a retired Master Sgt.  in the US Air Force serving  in WWII, Korea & Vietnam.  William was a loving husband and father. He loved his grandchildren & he loved to fish.  Everyone loved him.   William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Tubby Willis: siblings, Josephine, Paul, Inez, Ella & Margaret.

George William Needham



George William Needham, 33, of Pocola, OK passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  George was born March 2, 1980 in Ft. Smith to Bobby Wayne & Anna Marie (Johnson) Needham.  He loved to hug people and tell them “I love you”.  He was just a Big Teddy Bear.  George was a very spiritual man who prayed often.  He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, George & Mary Johnson, Charles William & Alice Needham.



Survivors include his wife, Amy of the home; daughter of his heart, Savannah Fetters; his mother, Anna Needham & Manuel Brasher “Daddy Long Legs”; brother, Larry “Tooter” Needham of Pocola, OK; aunt, Lorene Pettit of Bunch, OK; uncles & aunts, Charles & Linda Needham of Ft. Lee Edward Jamison Sr., 57, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, December  12, 2013 in Fort Smith, AR.  Lee was born August 11, 1956 in San Jose, CA to Claud Donald & Dortha (Goff) Jamison.  He was a factory worker.  Lee was preceded in death by his father.

Jewel Cox



Jewel Cox, 88, of Cameron, OK was called home to be with the Lord Friday, December 13, 2013 in Cameron.  Jewel was born August 24, 1925 in Rock Island, OK to Fred & Jannie (Murray) Edwards. She was an engraver at Johnson Controls for 34 years.    She was a graduate of Rock Island School.  Jewel was a longtime member of Rock Island Free Will Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, song leader and secretary.  She was a great farm hand and loved the outdoors, enjoying gardening, sewing and quilting.  Jewel was very active in the community and supported local sports teams.   Although she had no children of her own she was a mother to many.  Jewel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony Cox; brothers, Jackie Edwards (11/27/13), Loyd Edwards; sisters Letis Rausch, Edith Vanscoy; stepson, Gaylon Cox; step daughters, Margaret & Patsy; great nephews, Joshua Edwards & Greg Butler.

Survivors include her loving sister in law, Peggy Edwards of Cameron, OK; nieces & nephews, Freddie & Trudy Edwards of Cameron, Jonathan & Judy Edwards of Wimberley, TX, Rhoda & Steve Butler of Ft. George Leslie Lenard, 65, Stonewall, LA (formerly of LeFlore, OK) passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in Stonewall, LA.  George was born May 9, 1948 in Summerfield, OK to James Hiram William & Clara Dean (Wheeler) Lenard.  George graduated from LeFlore High School & joined  the US Air Force & did a tour in Vietnam.   George was an architect.   He was preceded  in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Survilla Lenard, brother, Charles Allen Lenard; brother in law, Raymond Edward Glenn.

Barbara Walker



Barbara M. Walker, 68, of Pampa, TX (formerly of Poteau, OK)  passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 in Pampa.  Barbara was born September 27, 1945 in Canadian, TX to Lewis & Bessie (McReynolds) Mathews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Muriel Gene Walker on March 21, 2010.  Barbara met and married Muriel in California where they managed El Corona Apartments.  After moving to Oklahoma, Barbara graduated from Carl Albert Junior College in 1985 majoring in Auto Mechanics.  She worked for EXIDE/Interstate Batteries where she was supervisor of the battery department.  She traveled throughout the United States working for them, living many different places.  She began working for Engine Parts & Supply in Pampa, TX in 2000 for Tammy Maple who became a close friend.  She retired from there in 2011. 

Survivors include her stepson, Greg Walker & wife Pam of Poteau, OK; aunt, Christine Harris of Poteau, OK; niece Linda Galbraith & husband Bruce of Dallas, TX; nephews, Tommy Lewis Adams of Pampa, TX, Carrol Wayne Bentley of Amarillo, TX; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Jennifer Mae Burrow Pyatt, 43, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 in Poteau.  Jennifer was born August 12, 1970 in Fontana, CA to Robert James & Grace (Sawyer) Burrow.  She was an administrative assistant at Cooper Clinic.  Jennifer  was preceded in death by her grandmother, Charlene Stanley.

Leo D. Sulivant



Leo Dempsey Sulivant, 79, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully Friday, December 6, 2013.  

A lifelong resident of Oklahoma, Leo was born November 11, 1934, in Latham, to the late Erastus N. and Beulah Faye (Cagle) Sulivant.  Leo enjoyed a rewarding career driving trucks for the US Postal Service.  He was a proud veteran having served in the US NAVY during the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Wayne Conway.

Leo was a beloved member of the community and is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; daughters and son-in-law, Sandy and Glenn Thompson of Poteau, OK; Gayla Hall and fiancé Jesus "Chuy" Sanchez; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Beatriz Sulivant of Sand Springs, OK; Fred and Lori Harper of Valrico, FL; Rob and Raleah Harper of Lawton, Ok; mother of his children, Erma Sulivant of Poteau, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Sulivant of McComb, OK; sister, Erma Faye Conway of Moore, OK; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many cherished relatives, loved ones, and innumerable dear friends. 

   Leo had a long fulfilling life in which he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.  He will be greatly missed.  

Services will be held at Evans Chapel of Memories at 10am, Thursday, December 12, 2013, in Poteau, OK.  Rev. Jim Cook will be officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, Ok.  Pallbearers will be Dustin Reece, Frank DeHart, Jim Schrodt, Bob Lindstrom and Paul Stottsberry.

David leaves behind his mother, Gaye Saling of Panama, OK and father, David R. Payton Sr. of Portsmouth, OH.  He is also survived by his brother, John A. Kennedy  & Bradley Wynn; nephew, Jessie J. Alice Gail Mayer, 61, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Fort Smith. AR.  Alice was born July 2, 1952 in Grants, NM to   Wilmer “Sam”  & Drucille (Ritter) McBride.  She worked as a Walmart Associate.  Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Vince DeGiusti & Earl “Skip” Mayer; brothers, Ray & Mackey McBride; sisters, Cynthia Holderfield & Neva Tackett.

Ryan James Self, 16, of Panama, OK passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 in Tulsa, OK.  Ryan was born November 29, 1997 in Ft. Smith, AR to Kelly & Sherry (Morgan) Self.  Ryan was a student at Panama High School.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Edwards.

Linda Diane Brown, 58, of Vian, OK passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 in Tulsa, OK.  Linda was born March 19, 1955 in Kansas City, MO to Harold & Jimmie (Barnes) Gibson.  She was a dental assistant.  Linda was preceded in death by her brother in law, Ted Hammons & nephew, Jake Hammons.

Joyce was born March 26, 1962 in Oklahoma City, OK to Gerald & Cleo Ruth (Cravins) Wilson.  Joyce graduated from Poteau High School and spent most of her life there.  She worked at Gerber and also at Whirlpool for 25 years.  Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Cleo; sister, Laura Wilson; grandparents, Howard & Bertha Wilson, Mattie Moore, and Otto Cravins.

 Jo Sue Evans (sister of Nan Dickerson) passed away in Oklahoma City, OK.  Memorial services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 7 at Evans Chapel of Memories.  A more detailed obit will follow.

Walter Urchison




Walter Lawrence Urchison, 88, of Monroe, OK passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 in Talihina VA Center.  He was born April 14, 1925 in Hilltown, OK to  George & Lucy (Richard) Urchison.  His parents were immigrants from Czechoslovakia & Italy.  He enjoyed construction work, country music, and helping people in need.    He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII.  Walter was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, John, Edgar & George; and sister, Dorothy Urchison Riggs.



Survivors include his sons, Lawrence & Criss Urchison and Glen Urchison; several grand & great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.



Services will be 10 am, Saturday, November 30, 2013 graveside at Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow.

Mary Lewallen



Mary Sue Lewallen, 70, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in Poteau.  Mary was born March 13, 1943 in Poteau, OK to Edgar & Monty S. (Henson) Nickles.  She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne of the home; son & daughter in law, Kenneth & Lisa Cremeans of Poteau, OK, Robert Cremeans of  Wetumka, OK; stepdaughters, Penny Sue of Texas, Zoe Mills of Muskogee, OK; stepsons, Faron Lewallen of Poteau, OK, Jess Lewallen of Durant, OK, William Lewallen of Poteau, OK; grandsons, Jeremy, Kenneth and Chris; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be  2 pm, Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Keith Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. 

Tina Fox



Tina Marie Fox, 72, of Cameron, OK passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 in  Cameron.  Tina was born January 20, 1941 in Chama, NM to Gabriel Sr. & Margaret (Duran) Martinez.  She was a hairdresser & a chef.  Tina was a Catholic.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Fox; stepson, John Fox Jr.; stepdaughter, Cathy Fox; brother, Gabriel Martinez Jr.



Survivors include her stepsons, Ronnie Fox of Cameron, OK, Stacy Fox of Greenwood, AR; stepdaughter, Jennifer Davidson of Heavener, OK; 7 grandchildren, Chad Fox, Amy Adams, Zach Fox,  Chelsea Fox, Abby Davidson, Dakota Davidson, Micah Davidson; 5 step great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ronnie Martinez of Roseville, CA, Amos Martinez of Tracy, CA, Gilbert Martinez of Vancouver, WA; sister, Louise Rodriguez of Newark, CA; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Bob Townley



  Robert Townley (Bob), 74,  of Arlington, TX (formerly of Poteau) passed away Friday, October 18th, 2013.  He was cremated and will be buried November 30th, at 2:30 pm at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, OK.
   Bob was born late in the evening on December 19, 1938 and his twin sister Roberta was born just after midnight on December 20th to Odie Irene and James Ira Townley in Oklahoma City, OK.  Bob lived in many locations during his youth, but settled in Arlington to raise his family.  While living in Arlington, Bob was most proud of the time spent coaching his sons’ baseball and football teams throughout their school years. 
  After retiring from Associated Popcorn Distributors in Dallas, he moved back to his childhood home of Harrison, AR where he rejoined old friends and made new ones.  He enjoyed attending classes at North Arkansas College and was a member of Phi Beta Lambda, Rho Zeta Chapter.   His last years were spent at Western Grove Villas and his family will be forever grateful for the friendships he made there and in the Harrison area.
   Bob is survived by sons Robert (Jean) of Krum and Randy (Sandra) of Arlington as well as grandchildren, Joshua, Noelle, Savannah, Sara and Bailey, 2 great grandchildren, Emma and Ashleigh and cousins, Archie Dow Carter and Sue Lassalette.         

Rev. Jackie Edwards

Jackie Edwards, 77, of Cameron, OK  went home to be with Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2013  at his home after being recently diagnosed with Mesothelioma.  Jackie was born August 10, 1936 in Cameron, OK to Fred & Jannie (Murray)  Edwards.   Jackie was a loving husband and father  and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.  In the ministry for 50 years, he pastored Bible Way Free Will Baptist Church for 28 years. He was a professional concrete and construction worker and member of /and chaplain for  the local chapter of “Riders for Christ”.  He served as a city councilman and volunteered for the local fire department.  He loved singing, songwriting, farming, ranching, and horseback riding.  He owned/operated Bible Way Family Ranch.  Above all Jackie was a godly man in both word and deed.  He tirelessly shared the gospel with everyone he met.  His encouraging smile and willingness to serve in any capacity will be greatly missed.    He was preceded in death by his parents;  brother, Loyd Edwards; sisters, Edith Vanscoy & Letis Rausch;  grandsons, Joshua Edwards & Greg Butler.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; sons & daughters in law, Freddie & Trudy Edwards of Cameron, OK, Jonathan & Judy Edwards of Wimberley, TX; daughters & sons in law, Rhoda & Steve Butler of Ft. Worth, TX, Rebekah Edwards of Cameron, OK, Rhonda  & Noble McIntyre of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Jewel Cox of  Cameron, OK; 15 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 11 am, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Pocola Heights Free Will Baptist Church, Pocola, OK with Revs. Gaylon Freeman and  Bill Burgess officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron, OK.  Pallbearers will be Timothy, Kevin, Eric, Jasper, & Jaxon Edwards, Grant Butler, Jonathan & Stephen Conner.
