Larry Wayne Earles


Larry Wayne Earles, 68, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Poteau.  Larry was born November 25, 1951 in Mulberry, AR to Luther & Hazel (Hendrix) Earls Stephens.  He was a retired veteran of the US Army & National Guard for over 20 years. He also retired from Walmart after 20 years.  His favorite thing was his church, Poteau Church of Christ, and his  church family.  Larry was preceded in death by his parent; sister, Beverly and brother, Carl.



Survivors include his sister, Kathy Frey & husband Eric; brother, Jerry & wife Darlene; his roommate, Junior; many cousins; 3 nieces & 2 nephews; other relatives & loved ones.



A memorial service will be held at a later date.  There is a register book available at the funeral home.

John Lawrence Channels


John Lawrence Channels, 89, of Shady Point, OK passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 in Heavener, OK.  John was born August 6, 1930 in Toronto, OH to Samuel & Phoebe (Rose) Channels.  He was employed by Crucible Steel in Midland, PA and the Beaver Local School District in Lisbon, OH.   John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia and daughter, Rebecca King.

Survivors include his son, James & wife Valerie; grandchildren, Andy King & Judy, Rachel Allen & Chad, John Channels & Landry, Daniel Channels  & Christian; great grandchildren, Preston, Gracelyn, Selah & Kendall; brother, Chester Channels; sister, Mary Alford; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Graveside services were Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK.
John was a resident of the Heavener Nursing Home where he received excellent, compassionate care.

Robert McFarland


         Robert Charles McFarland, 84, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Friday, June 19, 2020 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Robert was born February 21, 1936 in Bells, TX to Elmer & Sallie (Whitaker) McFarland.  He was preceded by his parents; son, Robert; daughter, Shelbie; brothers & sisters, Bobby McFarland, Jimmy McFarland, Rea McKinley, Cricket Turnage, Linda Owens & Wilma Trimble.
          Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Velma; sons & daughters in law, Tony Dale & Deborah McFarland, Kenneth & Carla McFarland; grandchildren, Roger McFarland, Mindy & Ronnie Sockey, Charles & Brandy McFarland, Laura Stumpf, Miranda & Corey Crase, Misty & Daniel Upton great grandchildren, Aiden & Ally Sockey, Sawyer Upton, Nathaniel & Benjamin Stumpf,  Harrison & Breyana, Ellie Crase; sisters, Helen Moore, JoAnn Little & husband Darrell, Alta Sue Smith; sister in law, Deanna McFarland; brother in law, Ernest Turnage; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
          Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Jim Cook & Ernest Turnage officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery. 
          The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

James T. Tanner


James Tony Tanner went to his heavenly home on Monday, June 15, 2020. He was born June 20, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Juanita Tanner of Poteau and brother-in-law, Joe Wise of Poteau.

He is survived by his four children, Karen Lavoie (Warren), Judy Tanner, Paullei Tanner, and George Tanner; three grandchildren, Danielle Hoeltzel (Curtis), Cody Eaves, and Austin Tanner; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Hoeltzel, Malachi Eaves and Aaron Eaves; his sister, Annette Wise; brother, Mike Tanner; two grand-dogs, Macy and Sam, and a wife, Judith Tanner.

Mr. Tanner had a long career in the oil industry that allowed him to travel the world. No matter where he went, he always returned to LeFlore County, the place he loved most. He lived his life’s dream of owning a farm with horses, as he was always a cowboy at heart. He started teaching his grand and great-grandchildren to ride before they were potty trained. At the farm in the country, he was able to pursue his other life’s passion of exercising his second amendment right. He taught his family the importance of gun safety, focusing on how to aim and fire.

MAY STARR


          May Elizabeth Starr, 72, of  Pocola, OK passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 in Pocola.  May was born August 21, 1947 in Ft. Smith, AR.  May worked at Whirlpool for 33 years.   She enjoyed camping, walking dogs, gathering with friends & family, & reading.  She REALLY enjoyed having a margarita with friends and family.  She was preceded in death by stepdaughter, Shelly Ashing; and mother Lillie.
          Survivors include her husband, Tony Starr; daughters, Michelle Scheide and husband Ray of Russellville, AR, “Punky” Melinda Weiler and husband Stacey of Ft. Smith, AR; Marla Ashing of Pocola, OK; son, Trey Ashing of Sugarloaf Key, FL; step daughter, Gayla Smith and husband Charlie of Spiro, OK; 10 grandkids; 1 great grandkid; sister, Lorene Hopewell of Arkoma, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
