Jerry Wayne Fulks



Jerry Wayne Fulks, 65, of Talihina, OK passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 in Talihina.  Jerry was born July 28, 1947 in Summerfield, OK to John Henry & Ellen (Smith) Fulks.     Jerry was a graduate of LeFlore High School where he played basketball.    Jerry married Cheri (Queener) Fulks on October 21, 1988.  He coached basketball for 28 years at Lone Grove Schools. He loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters & 1 brother.

Survivors include his wife, Cheri of the home; 2 daughters & son in law, Renee Garrett Tulsa, OK, Amanda & John Horton of Talihina, OK; sons & daughter in law, Roy & Gina Hall Jr. of Howe, OK, Jordan Barnes of the home; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters & brother in law, Edith & Calvin Nelson of Las Vegas, NV, Diann Chambers of Annacoco, LA; brother & sister in law, Derral & Editha Fulks Edmond, OK; numerous nieces & nephews, other relatives, loved ones; many friends.

Services will be 10 am, Monday, June 3, 2013 at Summerfield Baptist Church, Summerfield, OK with Rev. Brent Smith officiating.  Interment will be in Summerfield Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Shawn Paul Billings, Brent Allen Billings, Gordon Queener, Vince Fulks, Brent Ketchum, Steven Rowton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Horton, Padden Hall, Ethan Hall, Charles Coleman, Clyde Billings, & Paul Billings. 

The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Glen "Poncho" Newburn



   Glen S. “Poncho” Newburn, 85, a lifelong resident of  Wister, OK passed  from this life to be with his Lord and Saviour Thursday, May 30, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Glen as born June 20, 1927 in Wister, OK to Charley & Helen (Myers) Newburn.  
   Glen married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Boyer on December 27, 1945 and shared 56 years before her passing in 2002.  Together they raised 2 children, Glenn E. & Carolyn Ann.  Glen proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Corp during WWII and was stationed in Japan.  He was a member of the NRA and the American Legion for over 50 years and started the Honor Wall of American Veterans at Bev’s Diner in Wister.  He was a member of  the Bethel Baptist Church in Wister and was a deacon for 59 years.  Glen retired from  the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation after 35 years and served on the Wister Fire Dept. many years before retiring.  Glen was known for his piano playing and at the age of 19 sat in with Bob Wills on three different occasions.  Glen was loved and will be missed by many.  One of his main philosophies of life was, “When you leave this life how do you want to be remembered?”.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale & Junior; wife, Mary; and grandson, Bradly Thompson.

   He is survived by his son Glenn & Janice Newburn of Red Oak, OK; daughter, Carolyn Newburn & Walter Folsom of Wister, OK; grandchildren, Joe & Stacy Newburn and children, Aaron  & Kodi; Bryan & Ola Thompson and children Miki, Hailey & Brad; and granddaughter, Randi Thompson; great grandson,  Jamin Thompson.

   Services will be 2 pm Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, Wister, OK with Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating.  Interment will follow in Maxey Cemetery, Wister.  Pallbearers will be Steve Walden, Lanny Akers, Otis Sloan, Bill Bullard, Mac Essman, Bob Almon. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Wooten, Warren Wann, J.D. Delap, Ike Caudell, Jerry Nelson and Bob Odell.

The family  will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Doyle W. Davis



Doyle W. Davis, 54 of Tulsa, passed away, Wednesday, May 29, 2013. He was born February 23, 1959 in Poteau, OK, son of Doyle Fay and Bessie Louise (Hathcoat) Davis. he was a 1977 graduate of Poteau High School. Doyle received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Science from North Eastern State and then completed the Police Academy. He served 28 years with the Tulsa Police Dept. including 18 with the Motorcycle Division. After retirement he worked for the Tulsa Airport Security. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau. Doyle is survived by his wife, Aracely; two daughters, Sharolyn and Aracely; mother and step-father, Louise and Richard (Dick) Searles and sisters, Elizabeth (Libby Ann) Schmidz and Ann Davis. Mr. Davis will lie in state Sunday from 1-3pm at the Freeman Harris Funeral Home in Tulsa, the funeral service will be held 10AM, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau followed by a graveside service with Full Honors by the Tulsa Police Dept. Honor Guard at the Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, Oklahoma.
 The family will be at Evans & Miller on Monday evening from 6-8 pm  to visit with relatives & friends.

Lena J. Ward



Lena Juanita Ward, 96, of Pocola, OK passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in Pocola.  Lena was born June 4, 1916 in Pocola to Roy & Liddy E. (Barlett) Kennedy.  She was a homemaker.  Lena was a charter member of the Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pocola where she was a member for 85 years, a charter member of the Pocola Senior Citizens, a member of Eastern Star and White Shrine.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie Ward, 2 brothers & 2 sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Arley R. Ward of Tahlequah, OK, James Ward of Pocola, OK; 4 grandchildren, Kelley Kerns  and Arley Ward II of Tahlequah, OK, Shane Ward of Winston-Salem, NC, Stephanie Shepherd of Mountainburg, AR; 5 great grandchildren, Kash Kerns, Keeley Kerns, Karlie Kerns, Madison Shepherd and Lindsey Shepherd; 2 sisters, Ruth Hobbs of Ft. Smith, AR, Henrietta Elmore of Pocola, OK; other relatives, loved ones and many friends.

Velma M. Hunt


Velma May Hunt , 74 , of Bokoshe, OK passed away Thursday, March 23, 2013 in Fort Smith, AR.  Velma was born February 26, 1939 in Oroville, California to Elick & Ethel Shields.  She was a homemaker.  Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years, Ron Hunt on 9/7/2012; daughter, Faye Daffron; son, Robert Hill; brothers, Art, Oscar, James, Wayne & Butch Shields; sisters, Lily Joseph & Ursa Freda Shields. 

She is survived by her 3 daughters; Heather Mulligan of Panama, OK, Julie Hobson of Vacaville, CA, Martha Shelton of Garden Valley, CA; son,  Richard Hunt of Nice, CA.;  1 sister, Leslie Majah of Seattle, WA; 1 brother, Wesley Shields of Reno, NV; 11 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Memorial services will be 2 pm, Monday, June 3, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.

Ronnie V. Bastress



Ronnie Vern Bastress, 69, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Ronnie was born October 22, 1943 in Buena Park, CA to Robert & Dolly (Shewe) Hardman.  She was a legal secretary & a psychiatric technician.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sons, Billy Cullers & wife Nicki  of Wister, OK, Richard Dugan of CA; daughter, Samantha Dugan of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Earin, Jennifer, Shaleen, Cyle Cullers, Rick Dugan Jr.,  Gary Holloway of CA, Cori Holloway of OK, Ariana Dugan of OK; 1 great grandson, Jaxson Holloway of CA; 2 sisters, Lonnie Gardenhire & husband Larry of Howe, OK, Bobby Gallegly of Howe, OK; 1 brother, Terry Hardman & wife Sue of CA; beloved pets, Mikey, Lucky & Crystal; many nieces & nephews  she loved; & many friends.

Linda Gayle Beshears



    Linda Gayle Beshears, 57, of Cameron, OK passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 in Fort Smith, AR.  Linda was born October 6, 1955 in Poteau, OK to James & Opal (Stewart) Pierce.  She operated Beshears Daycare.  Linda was preceded in death by her mother; and daughter, Darla Beshears.
     Survivors include her husband, Darrell of the home; daughters, Amanda Luman and Jennifer Luman of Cameron, OK, Tarron & B.J. Mary Ellen Cripps, 88, of Wister, OK passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Mary was born April 11, 1925 in Braden, OK to Joseph E. & Ethel A. (Williams) Andrews.  She was a homemaker.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Ray Cripps; 3 sisters, Helen Coffey, Ida Belle Grimes & Bobbie Jean Hensley.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Raymond of the home; 3 sons, Raymond Lee Cripps of Hontubby, OK, Bill Cripps of Wister, OK, Jarrod Cripps of Wister, OK; 4 daughters,  Shirley Sue Scogin of Bay Minette, AL,  Judy Lovett of Wister, OK, Mary Gayle Newman of Pocola, OK, Patricia Davis of Heavener, OK; 24 grandchildren;42 great grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Annie Vincent

Annie Blanche Vincent, 78, Panama, OK  passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Annie was born August 21, 1934 in Saumur, France to Louie & Lea Poirson.  Annie was a retired teacher having taught in Pocola & Spiro.  She and Billy were married September 26, 1956.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Poteau.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  son, David; brother, Jacque Poirson; in laws, Henry & Jettie Vincent.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Billy of the home; son & daughter in law, Daniel & Wanda Vincent of Coweta, OK;  grandchildren, Kenneth & Jamie Vincent of Panama, OK, Jessica & Anthony Setzer of Stillwater, OK; 4 great grandchildren, Zoey Vincent, Zane Vincent, Colton Vincent, & Channing Setzer; sister in law, Wanda  Norris & husband, Roger of Bokoshe, OK; nephew, Greg Norris of Bokoshe; former daughter in law, Shanti Camp of Ft. Maxine McKinnon, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013.  Maxine was born November 19, 1921 in Spur, TX.  Maxine was a homemaker.

Randy Branscum



Randy Thomas Branscum, 54, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Poteau.  Randy was born October 17, 1958 in Loma Linda CA to James Ray & Evelyn Eve (Graham) Branscum.  He was the lead operator at Animal Feed Supplement.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Michael Branscum.

Joe Matthew Cooper, 61, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Joe was born July 2, 1951 in San Bernadino, CA to Smokey & Juanita M.  Cooper.   Joe & Smokey Cooper had Cooper’s Furniture & Appliance.  He was an avid fisherman.  He loved his family and hosting family get togethers.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Matthew Nelson Cooper;  father in law & mother in law, Bill & La-Dean Ritter.

   Bill Richard Montgomery, 48, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his home.  Bill was born August 24, 1964 in Poteau to J.F. & Grace (McClain) Montgomery.

Bobby Dean Doshier



Bobby Dean Doshier, 77, of Spiro, OK passed away Friday, May 18, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Bob was born March 25, 1936 in Shady Point, OK to Tyde & Opal (Shelton) Doshier.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force and he served in Korea.  He owned & operated Bob Doshier Trucking.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie;  son, Donald J. and sister, Carol Ann Morgan.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborrah Johnson and Tracey Doshier both of Spiro,OK, Bobbi Jo Taylor of Dardenelle, AR; son, Steven Wayne Doshier of Poteau, OK; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister & brother in law, Patsy Gayle & Obie Hamlin of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Gary Doshier of Bokoshe, OK; special aunt, Hazel Krauklis of Libertyville, IL; step daughters, Amy Vandergriff of Ft. Opheline Myers

Opheline Myers, 88, of Shady Point, OK passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late Monroe & Jessie (Keeling) Abbott of Ada, OK.  Opheline was born December 11, 1924 in Egypt, OK.  Opheline was united in marriage to Curtis Myers on November 11, 1944 at their preachers home in Ada.  Curtis & Opheline moved to Poteau, OK in 1972 where they opened the Sonic Drive In.  Opheline was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She will be dearly missed.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers. Ralph Colby Groshong, 71, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his home.  Ralph was born December 31, 1941 in Albany, OR to Ronald Linden & Lois Irene (Purdy) Groshong.  He was a logging camp supervisor.  Ralph was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of the home; daughter & son in law, Brenda & Robert McDowell of Ketchikan, AK; son & daughter in law, Rick & Tammy Groshong of Wrangell, AK; stepson, Marlin Graber & wife Janet of Ft.  Barbara J. Edwards, 82, of Pocola, OK passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Pocola.  Barbara was born June 10, 1930 in Pontiac, MI to Osburn & Violetta Ferguson.  She was a homemaker.  Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Edwards.

Survivors include her daughters & sons in law, Cindi & Steve Geist of Moore, OK, Mindi & Mike Moore of Pocola, OK, Shanna & Keith Butler of Panama, OK;son & daughter in law, Tom & Judy Edwards of Attica, MI;  several grand & great grandchildren; sister, Mildred West of Waterford, MI; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Gage Zachery Pilkington

Gage Zachery Pilkington, 20, of Wister, OK passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK.  Gage was born May 17, 1992  in Poteau, OK to Danny & Kerri (Robinson) Pilkington.  He was a general laborer.  He was  preceded in death by his grandfather, Dan H. Pilkington and great grandfather, Jack Flanary.

Jimmy Lee Waggoner



Jimmy Lee Waggoner, 73, of Hartshorne, OK passed away Friday,  May 10, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Jimmy was born July 21, 1939 in Colbert, OK to William Tolbert & Virginia Edith (Redd) Waggoner.   He was a pipe fitter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Waggoner & Virginia Towery; sister, Louise; and brothers, Tom, Bobby, Fred & Dale. Jimmy was a veteran  Artillery Captain in the US Army.

Daniel Ray Stout



Daniel Ray Stout, 41, of Shady Point, OK passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Fayetteville, AR.  Daniel was born February 24, 1972 in Stigler, OK to Curtis Ray & Jackie (Lovell) Stout.  He worked as a service tech for Big Dutchman.  Daniel was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Vernice & William Lovell,  Harvey & Alta Stout.

Survivors include his wife, Mandi of the home; daughter, Madison of the home; mother, Jackie Stout of McCurtain, OK; mother in law, Donna Kingsborough; father in law & wife, Jim & Pat Cluck; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

 Services will be 2 pm, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Lynn Bullard officiating.  Interment will follow in Dog Creek Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Kevin Cluck, Eli Cluck, Lauren Davis, Tracy Lovell, Stacy Lovell, Steven Lovell, Greg Lovell, Weston Lovell. 

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Thursday evening to visit with relatives & friends.

Bob Deleplank



Bob Deleplank, 74, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, May 02, 2013 at his home in Poteau.  Bob was born March 23, 1939 in Ft. Smith, AR to Frank & Pearl (Blair) Deleplank.  Bob worked for the City of Poteau for 27 years.  He was a Little League Baseball Coach in Poteau for over 23 years coaching many players and winning many games. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Artie; his parents; son in law, Steve Hastings; two sisters & one brother.

Survivors include his daughters & son in law, Dora & Richard Piersant, Debra Hastings of Poteau; sons & daughters in law, Bobby II & Dawn Deleplank, Hoss & Chantay Deleplank, Billy Deleplank of Poteau; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Deleplank of Poteau; sisters, Frances Lomon of Paradise, TX; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Monday, May 6, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Billy Cook, Billy Cripps, Billy Ray Hoffman, Rocky Sumpter, Doug Stone, Rodney Hemphill.

The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Jimmy Powell



Jimmy Powell, 64, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 in Poteau, OK.  Jimmy was born January 25, 1949 in Fresno, CA to Noel Lessie & Audry Faye (Vanhoosier) Powell.  He was a general laborer.  Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Roy, Ray & Bobby Powell  and  Joy Powell-Ohler.

Survivors include his brothers, Robert, Lessie Jr. and Billy Powell all of Bokoshe, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, May 4, 2013 graveside at Milton Cemetery, Milton, OK with Rev. Wes Bates officiating.  Pallbearers will be  Johnny Crow, Steven Ohler Jr., Jospeh Ohler, Ricky Ohler, Steven Ohler Sr., and Dennis Lovell.  Honorary pallbearer will be Jeanie Ross.

Marie Cowan

Marie Cowan, 85 of Van Buren, AR passed away April 26, 2013 in Van Buren, AR.  Marie was born December 10, 1927 in Heavener, OK to Lewis A. & Cora B. (Balentine) Widmar.  She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Claudine Crowe & Betty Stricklin; and granddaughter, Stacy Ann Cowan.

Survivors include her daughters & sons in law, Barbara & Jerry Crysler of Clare, MI, Karen & Norman Davis of Heavener, OK; son & daughter in law, Johnny R. & Terrie Cowan of Ft. Smith, AR; brother & sister in law, Floyd & Evelyn Widmar of Hodgen, OK; 7 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Aleen Goodwin, 89, of Cameron, OK passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Poteau, OK.  Aleen was born in Meg, AR to Joseph Alexander & Susie Rachel (Bryant) Owen.  Aleen was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Thomas Goodwin; brothers, Ernie and Stanford Owen, Raymond Martin; sisters, Faye Marie Dees, Geneva Towery, Odie Laymon.
