Emily Williamson-Cupp

 

Emily Ruth Williamson-Cupp, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at her home.  Emily was born December 15, 1930 in Poteau, OK to Thurman  “T.J.” & Beatrice (Hawkins) McDonald.  She was retired from Central National Bank where she was customer service representative.  Emily was preceded in death by her first husband, Reeves Williamson; daughter, Ruth Ann Hoffman; brother, Wallace McDonald; sisters, Meridith McClain & Wilma Smith.

 

Survivors include her husband, Bill Cupp; children, Laura & Steve Lowrie, Don  & Leslie Williamson, Terry & Sharon Williamson; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; stepchildren, Billy Bob & Mary Cupp, Beverly Weaver; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

 

Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Poteau with Jim Perkin & Phil McGehee officiating.  Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Wesley Williamson, Clint Lowrie, Clay Bennett, Bob Carter, Mike Clark & Billy Bob Cupp.

          Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

 

Cleatus "Pete" Colbert

 

Cleatus “Pete” Leon Colbert, 90, of Howe, OK passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his home.  Pete was born June 11, 1931 in Steele, MO to Roger & Larrie (Mitchell) Colbert.  He was a retired postal worker.  He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War receiving a Purple Heart.  Pete was an avid fisherman and he loved mowing his grass.   He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Harold and Gary; daughters, Debbie Colbert, Yvette Iribarne; 3 brothers & one sister.

 

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jerry; daughter, Yvonne Newton; daughter in law, Rayen Judge; grandchildren, Adam and Lindsay Colbert, Nathen and Melinda Colbert, Latisha McGowen, Tiffany Iribarne, Josh Iribarne, Brian & Samantha Colbert; great grandchildren, Caden Colbert, Cordell Ramsey, Kelsey Ramsey, Brea and Josh Hamlin, Averie Colbert, and Emmrie Sumpter; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

 

Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Jeff Dodd officiating.  Interment will follow at Howe Cemetery, Howe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Caden, Nathen, and Adam Colbert, Josh Hamlin, Cordell Ramsey, Ty Carpenter, Brian Colbert.  

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday Feb. 4 at the funeral home.

 

Edna Mae Odom

 

Edna Mae (Steward) Odom passed away Sunday morning, January 30, 2022 - just 79 days short of her 100th birthday. She was born April 19, 1922, in Shawnee, OK to Wallace Waterson Steward and Daisy May Abrams. She was the oldest of 10 children.

 After her mother passed away, Edna had to balance helping her father with the farm and the care of her younger siblings. She spent her young adult life as one of the famous Rosie the Riveters, working in the nose of the planes at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City during the height of WWII.   It was on the bus rides between Shawnee and Oklahoma City where she met her eventual husband James “Red” Odom. They married in 1945 and began their family in 1946, with the birth of their oldest son. Over the next 17 years, their family would grow to nine children.

 Edna and James relocated to Poteau, OK in the early 60’s. Edna worked many of their early years for Holton’s grocery store while James had several jobs before they both ended their working years owning a dairy. It is at the dairy where most of the grandchildren fondly recalled their formative years beside their grandparents.   

Beginning in 1969, Edna and James welcomed their first grandchild Amanda (Bozarth) Siemering. In total, they had 17 grandchildren with more great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren being added yearly!   

As of her passing, Edna was blessed to still have three of her siblings, nine children, 16 of 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In reflecting on her family, Edna said, “All my kids are honest, and if people want good workers, they’ll hire them.”

 Edna was preceded in death by her parents; six of her nine siblings; husband James Odom; granddaughter Kerri Odom; sons-in-law Gene Duncan and Lenn Darnell; and daughter-in-law Sue Odom.

 Survivors include:

 Two brothers: Wayne Steward and partner Gloria; Jim Steward & wife Laqueda.

 Sister: Bessie Belcher.

 Sisters-in-law: Betty Zuker: Rosalea Odom

 Nine children:

Ronnie Odom; Sharon Bozarth & husband Pat; Glenda Duncan; Steve Odom & wife Susan; Gary Odom & wife Connie; Connie Woodson & husband Bobby; Barbara Darnell; Curtis Odom & wife Missy; and, Brenda Murray.

 Sixteen grandchildren: Amanda Siemering; Jovonna Fields & husband Paul; Kelley Myers & husband Steve; Niki Stacy and partner Cliff; Danny Darnell, Christy Woodson & wife Renee; Wesley Odom & wife Kacy; Greg Tarpley & wife Keri; Kevin Duncan & wife Casey; Melody Darnell; Jessica Berry & husband Scotty; Rodney Darnell; Lindsay Wann & husband Cody; Bradlee Odom & wife Precious; Sam Williams & fiancée Alex; and, Katie Marshall & husband James.Other survivors include her great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and  other family members.

 Edna’s final words of wisdom: “Always be honest. It’s the best thing yet.”

 Services will Be 10 am, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Danny Darnell and Jim Cook officiating.  Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore.

 

John Chester

John Dero Chester, 59, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Ft. Smith, AR.  John was born November 12, 1962 in Poteau to George & Dora (Abbott) Chester.  He was owner of a car business.  John was preceded in death by his wife, Tonya; daughter, Amanda & brother, Richard.

 

Survivors include his sons, John Chester II, Daniel “Bubba” Chester, Justin Duvall & Jeremy Gravlee; daughter, Yvette Parker; his parents, George & Dora; sister, George Ann Noe; brothers, Joseph Chester; nieces, Shanda Jones & Christie Lee; numerous grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends. 

 

Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Jim Cook officiating.  Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore.  Pallbearers will be John Chester II, Chris Wood, Ross Noe, Michael Dickey, Justin Rogers, Kevin Gee & Michael D'Agostina Jr..

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

 

 

Cheryl Lynn Perkins

Cheryl Lynn Perkins, 65, passed away January 20, 2022 in her home.  She was born July 7, 1956 to Charles William & Drucille (Vance) Morton in Ft. Smith, AR.  Cheryl loved her family and enjoyed meeting and talking to people.  Through the years she coached softball teams, was a Girl Scout leader for over two decades and a Cub Scout leader for many years.  Cheryl was creatives in arts and crafts, as she led classes in pottery and scrapbooking at the Reynolds Cancer Support House for many years.  She loved making jewelry and doing research for genealogy.  During her battle with cancer, she found another love, her Teal Sisters of the River Valley Ovarian Cancer Alliance and her Green Angel Sisters.  Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence Vance & Eunice Kelley, Nelson & Ruth Crockett Morton, her father, Charles Morton and one brother, Weslie Morton.

 

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jesse Perkins; 2 daughters, Angela Perkins and Cristina Annunziato of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tasha Inks & Michael Inks of Ft. Smith, AR and one son, Scott Perkins of Pocola, OK; her mother, Drucille Morton of Ft. Smith, AR; and one granddaughter, the light of her life, Sophia Brown of Pocola, OK; brothers, Les & Pam Morton of LIberty, OK, Owen  & Patti Morton of Tahlequah, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 11 am, Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola with Wendy Lambkin officiating.  Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home in Pocola.
