Joy Arter


Joy Statham Monks Arter, 79, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Joy was born March 27, 1940 in Bokoshe to V.E. “Cotton” & Opal (McCullar) Tanksley.   Joy was owner of a Certified  Real Estate Appraisal Company; a builder & developer of land; and a real estate broker.  She was preceded in death by her parents & sister, Connie Jo Tanksley.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip; daughter Louise Brewer & husband Olan; son, Harold Edward Statham all of Bokoshe, OK; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Melba Horton, Billye Vincent & Delcina Saling & husband Tracy; brother, Tim Tanksley & wife Sharon all of Bokoshe, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Bokoshe Church of Christ.  Interment will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with friends & relatives.

Alburna Thompson



Alburna Janet Thompson, 97, of Rowlett, TX passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at home.  Alburna was born December 9, 1921 in Hartshorne, OK to Mitchell & Emantha (Crout) Moore.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; 3 daughters & 2 sons.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Hill of Richmond, TX, Angela Rentie of Rowlett, TX & Juanita Roberts of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Richard Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK; numerous grand, great and great great grandchildren.

Services will be 1 pm,  Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery, Dog Creek, OK.

Vickie Diane Darnell



Vickie Darnell, 63, of Gilmore, OK passed away June 23, 2019 in Gilmore.  She was born July 22, 1955 in Hobbs, NM to E.H. “Red”  & Phyllis Breashears  She was preceded in death by her father & granddaughter, Kristen Lovell.



Survived by Chris Darnell, loving husband of 45 years; 2 daughters, Brandie and Chris Lovell of Howe, OK, Christie and Kenny Gream of Fort Carson, CO; 6 grandchildren, Summer & Michael Campbell, Jake Lovell, Addyson, Molly, Weston & Lillian Gream; 2 great granddaughters, Rebel & Krista Campbell; her loving mother, Phyllis Breashears; 2 brothers, Eddie Breashears, Wayne & Mary Jo Breashears; best friend/sister, Nancy Winfrey & daughters, Suzzina Hoffman & Twila Hoffman; a host of nieces and nephews; friends and loved ones.  Over the last 14 years she hosted several exchange students, Luli Lim, Peggy Huang, Pernille Sanders, Maria Schroeder, Tea Andersdotter, Marten Timmerman & Jessica Anderegg.  She had been adopted by many that had gladly called her “Grandma Vickie”.  Those special grandchildren are Bobby & Mashayla Martin, Chasity Sanders, Nick “Buttercup”  & Jennifer Goff, Meagan Hollingshead, Rachel Armstrong, Jessica Sockey, Marietta Hupe, Hanna Wihlborg & Cello Guglielmi. 

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Springhill Baptist Church  with Pastor Phil McGehee & Pastor Travis Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at Vaughn Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Billy Wilson, Boyd Wilson, Kenny Gream, Michael Campbell, Bobby Martin & Jake Lovell.

Visitation with family will be Wednesday, June 26. 2019 from 6-8 pm at Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Wilma Hemphill


Wilma Hemphill, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 in Heavener, OK.  Wilma was born January 26, 1928 in Poteau, OK to Bert & Dona (Faulkenberry) Barentine.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Paul Hemphill; son, Dennis Hemphill & granddaughter, Brea Gammel.

          Survivors include her children, Joe Jr. & Kaye Hemphill, Suanna & Charlie Rust, Rodney & Kim Hemphill, Roger & Toni Hemphill; grandchildren, Brett, Beverly, Nikki, Natalie, Lynsey & Tyler,Charlie Wayne, Casey & Cassidi, Brandon & Krystal;  20 Great Grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Southside Baptist Church, Poteau, OK.   Interment will follow in Monroe Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Charlie Wayne Rust, Brett, Casey, Brandon & Tyler Hemphill, Keith Gammel.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
