Sandra Jean Gentry

Funeral Service for Sandra Jean Gentry, 65 of Wister, Oklahoma will be at 2pm on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Ellis Chapel Church in Wister, Oklahoma with Sister Caroline Langston officiating. Burial will follow at Maxey Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Sandra was born on January 18, 1957 in Patterson, California to Marcia (Wedge) Lampkin and Bill Hill and passed away on August 17, 2022 in Wister, Oklahoma.  She was married to Rodger Gentry on August 10, 1979 in Wister, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents. There are some things the family would like for everyone to know about Sandy.

Sandy was married to “Mr. Gentry”’ as she called him, for 43 years. They raised their son Michael and daughter Kara together, and occasionally lent a hand with others. Through all the ups and downs, storms and trials, Rodger has been right beside her. He, and a host of others, walked her through 2 bouts of cancer and its recovery. If Rodger didn’t know what to do, Sandy would be very happy to tell him. She loved him still.

It’s hard to explain how very much she loved Kara and Michael, and unconditionally, too. She loved them much, and while she didn’t hesitate to give them her two cents worth, it’s doubtful you could do that. If anyone thought she was intense concerning her children, they would not be surprised at how big she loved her grandchildren. For each birthday, Sandy would cook her kids and grandkids their favorite foods. Sandy took every opportunity to make each one feel special and very much loved. She was their biggest fan! In fact, she loved her own grandkids so much, she took others under her wing as well.

Every Sunday the family knew it was time to go to Nawnaw’s for Sunday dinner for choc it pie and cookies. And every Christmas, She’d announce it was time to cut down on the presents, and every year she’d stack them up taller than the year before.

Sandy was a constant in the Wister Community for 30 years down at the Gingerbread House; first with her mama Marcie, and then her own, and later with her daughter Kara. At every era through, if you were anywhere close, you’d probably hear her laughing out loud.

Sandy was a faithful friend and still had many, many friends from her school days. She was first to help her neighbor and had a giving heart.
Like everything else Sandy did, she believed BIG. She believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of the Living God and she prayed for her family and friends to believe the same. She prays still and loves still. Sandy was a faithful member of her church, Ellis Chapel, and will be sorely missed. She loved her lord, her church and her church family, and served them well.

Sandy and Nina arrived at heaven’s gate together, sad to leave everyone behind but overjoyed to see her Savior face to face. We do wonder if Jesus had to give them a time out for laughing too loud, but we don’t really think so. What a wonderful homecoming for Sandy, surrounded by loved ones, getting to see the Mama and daddy she missed so much, and resting in eternity at home at last.
Sandra Gentry was a remarkable, loving, joyful lady.  She  loved BIG and she will be missed BIG.

Survivors include: husband, Rodger  Gentry; son Michael Gentry and Michelle Rose; daughter, Kara Price and husband Michael; brother, Michael Hill and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Shawn Price and wife Serenity, Trapper Gentry, Ian Price, Christian Clark, Harley Robinson, Darbey Robinson, Kendall Gentry, Ali Price, Bella Gentry, Marcey Robinson, Woodrow Gentry; great grandchild, Ada Price; numerous other friends, loved ones, and her church family at Ellis Chapel Church.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Price, Ian Price, Trapper Gentry, Jake Keen, Mike Lovett, Steven Nichols.
