Helen DeVearl Creager Forrest, 92, of Poteau, OK died peacefully Tuesday, December 20, 2021 in Ft. Smith, AR following a short illness. DeVearl was the daughter of Ralph & Dollie Plott Creager and was born in Harrison, AR. At the age of 8 she and her family moved to Arvin, CA. She graduated from Bakersfield High School and later earned her nursing and Public Health Nursing Degree. She married Ivan Forrest in 1949. They lived near Bakersfield and raised a daughter, Victoria and a son, Michael. They enjoyed square dancing and they raised and showed Quarter and Appaloosa halter horses on the National Circuit. Ivan farmed and DeVearl was a nurse with the Kern County Health Department until their retirement when they moved to Poteau.
They were married 70 years. Ivan passed in 2018 and DeVearl rejoined him on December 20, 2021. Her son Michael predeceased her in 2019.
She is survived by her daughter Victoria & her husband Bill of Centennial, WY & Morristown, AZ; grandchildren, Justin (Hannah) Haley of Mariposa, CA, Jacob Haley of Oxnard, CA, and Taylor Haley of Laramie, WY; and great grandchildren, Hudson & Soren Ivan Haley of Mariposa, CA; her sister, Dixie Abernathy of Panama, OK; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 am, Friday, January 14, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in Panama, OK with Keith Williams officiating.
