Anna Louise Harrison
Morris, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away
Thursday, September 17, 2015 in Poteau.
Anna was born September 20, 1923 in Poteau to John C. & Emma
(Gassaway) Harrison of Monroe. She
attended school there in Monroe and was in a graduating class of seven. Anna began her teaching career in Glendale,
OK in 1943 with 54 1/2 college hours from
Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, OK on an Emergency War Teaching
Certificate. She married her childhood
sweetheart, Robert H. Morris, also of Monroe in 1946. From 1948 to 1954 she stayed home to raise
their son, Robert H. Morris Jr. Anna
taught at Tony Goetz School in Muskogee from 1954 to 1969. During that time she obtained her Master's
Degree from NSC. She moved from Muskogee
to Poteau and taught at Monroe from 1969 to 1973. She then taught at Poteau from 1973 until her
retirement in 1984.
Anna was a member of First
Baptist Church , Poteau, where she was a long time Sunday school teacher and
choir member. She enjoyed traveling,
fishing and camping. She was an
excellent cook. Anna was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband; nephew, Kenneth Harrison & great nephew,
Storm St. Clair.
She is survived by her son,
Robert H. Morris Jr. of the home; grandson, Jade Morris of Oklahoma City; her
brothers, Joe Harrison of Noble, OK ,
Robert Louis & wife Cordella Harrison of Blacksburg, VA; nieces, Christine
Willy Bean of Tahlequah, OK, Carol & husband Bill Hicks of Noble, Linda
Harrison of Oklahoma City; nephews, Louis, Cliff and Bruce Harrison of
Blacksburg, VA; other relatives, loved ones and many friends.
Services will be 10 am,
Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Mark
Morris officiating. Interment will
follow in Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK.
The family will be at the
funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives &
friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that
you make a donation in Anna's name to Patrick Lynch Friends of the Library in
Poteau. Your donation would be a fitting
tribute to Anna and her lifetime as an educator.
