Nyla M. Shepherd, 92 of Ft. Smith, AR (formerly of Poteau, OK) passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Ft. Smith. Nyla was born December 8, 1920 in Sallisaw, OK
to John & Ellie (Head) Shepherd. She
was a bookkeeper. Nyla was a devout Catholic. She was a member of the Franciscan Order in New Orleans, 3rd
Order. She received the honor of being
Volunteer of the Year in New Orleans
for her work with the homeless. She
lived to serve her God and her church.
Survivors include her
daughters, Yvonne Ramos of Palacios, TX, Helen Wilson of Dallas TX; son,
Charles Wilson of Boston, MA; sisters, Jean Brantley of Alamogordo, NM, Betty
Rice of Heavener, OK; niece, Nadalyn Jaegar & husband Lloyd of Poteau, OK;
sister in law, Betty Shepherd; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives &
loved ones; many beloved friends.
Rosary will be held at 6
pm, Thursday, August 08, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK.
Mass will be held 11:00
a.m. – Friday, August 9, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church Ft. Smith,
AR with Father Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery,
Poteau, OK.
Due to her love for the church Nyla specifically requested that donations be made to the church rather than on flowers.
