Joseph Haberland

Joseph Haberland, 73, of McCurtain, OK (formerly of Claremore, OK) passed away August 18, 2013 in Poteau, OK.  Joseph was born May 29, 1940 in Glen Cove, NY  to Stanley & Gertrude (Dudkiewicz) Haberland.  Joseph or “Hammer Down” was a heavy equipment operator & a rancher.  Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.  Joe was known as a hard worker and a joker by many but most important to him was FAMILY.  There was not always much time between work and ranching but he always found a way to show his children he thought about them all the time.  It might include a trip, just with Dad, to an out of the way restaurant or a new set of tires so we could travel safely to come see him. Grandchildren gave him new life and reasons to offer soda and donuts for breakfast - a grandkid favorite. A ride on the tractor or fishing with "Papa Joe" was such a special treat that he shared with his grandchildren.  His legend as a hard worker and love for the land and heavy machinery will live on through his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Flagg of Claremore, OK; daughters, Dr. Carolyn Sue McGuire & husband, “Utah” Geoff of Orem, UT, Lisa Janine Floyd & husband Byron “Bubba” of Ft. Gibson, OK; son, Joseph David Haberland & “favorite daughter in law” Gretchen of McCurtain, OK; stepchildren, Richard William Flagg of Claremore, OK, Sherry Gay Prather & husband, John  of Waco, TX & Dawn McHenry of Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren, Kassia, Kian, Kadyn, Kambry, Kolton “Captain Jake”, Aidan, Zander, Zachary, Levi, Vanessa, Derek, Kendall, Micah, Lauren; sister, Diana “Babe” Wenrick of Anchorage, AK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; and many beloved friends.

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories with Father Gregory Luyet officiating.  Interment will be in Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Sonny Tackett, Eddie Cooper, Gary Kates, Randy Emerson, Joe Henderson, Fred Wegert.  Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Arter, Woody Johnson & R.C. Culwell.

The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
