KATHERINE SCOTT HUGHEY

Katherine Scott Hughey, 98, of Dewey, OK (formerly of Poteau, OK) passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 in Dewey. Katherine was born September 23, 1911 in Cameron, OK to Walter & Ella (Hill) Scott). Her parents and 6 siblings preceded her in death. Katherine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau, OK. She retired from teaching school after 36 years. Survivors include her husband, Ira Hughey of Dewey, OK; daughter & son in law, Kay Hughey Riling and Gene Riling of Bartlesville, OK, son and daughter in law, Ronald Edward & Carol Hughey of Montoursville, PA; 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Services held 2 pm, Monday, October 12, 2009 at First Baptist Church, Poteau, OK with Rev. Phil McGehee officiating. Interment following in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. Pallbearers Sam Abbott, Waylon Groom, Joe Smith, Don Chitwood, Jim Mixon, and Flip Wilson. Honorary pallbearers F.L. Holton and Odean Nichols.

Denver and I were saddened to hear of Mrs. Hughey's passing.
She really was a 'foster' Mother to many of us.

To the Hughey family; On behalf of the Robison family, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of Mrs. Hughey. She was my 1st grade teacher as well as lifelong neighbor and friend. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Katherine Hughey.
I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet lady back in 1979 when I visited her relative, my friend Dian McDonald in Poteau.
I will always fondly remember Katherine's quiet wisdom, her kindness and gentle Southern voice.

Ms. Hughey was always someone I looked up to in church, she was always helping and was a great lady! I'll always remember her!
