Samuel Wesley Pickle

Samuel Wesley Pickle (93) of Poteau, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau under the direction of the Evans and Miller Funeral Home.  

Wesley was born on September 24, 1928, in Monroe, Oklahoma to Stella (Hemphill) Pickle and Sam Pickle. He was married to Patricia (Turner) Pickle on May 30, 1953, in Poteau. He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant siblings, Jerome Pickle, Hazel Ward, June Hall, Sylvan "Syb" Pickle, and Syble Ellis.  
 
Wesley spent most of his adult life molding the hearts and minds of students as an educator in the Poteau school system. During his career, he spent time as a math teacher and an assistant principal. In 1974 he was honored as both Poteau Public Schools and Leflore County’s Teacher of the year.
 
Wesley also worked as a rancher, and in 1985 the Pickle family was honored as the Outstanding Farm Family for Leflore County.  

Wesley was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with his church family.   

Wesley also believed in giving back to his community.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Leflore County Soil Conservation Service and was the President of the Board of Directors for the Monroe cemetery. He also served as the Honorary Chapter Farmer for the Poteau FFA.  

Wesley is survived by his wife Pat of 69 years; his children Susan Pickle Boggs and husband Brian of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Linda Jane Boyd and husband Curtis of Tipton, Oklahoma; David Sam Pickle and wife Kris of Poteau, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mildred Pickle of Iowa City, Iowa.   

Pallbearers will be Wesley Boyd, Will Boyd, Johnny Baker, Curtis Boyd, Brian Boggs, and Chase Tucker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Arthur Heavener, Ed Abernathy, and Ralph Pickle.  

Visitation will be Friday, September 30, 2022, from 5-7 p.m.

We meet Mr Pickle in the late 1980s . I worked on his Scooters for years and years .We thought a lot of Wes . Rest In Peace Mr. Pickle until we meet again .
