Burl "Don" Shrum

 

Funeral Service for Burl "Don" Shrum, 90 of Poteau, Oklahoma will be at 10am on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe, Oklahoma with Phil McGehee  officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore,Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Oklahoma.

Don was born on June 18, 1932 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Nellie (Pate) and Clarence Shrum and passed away on September 13, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  He was married to Dixie (Bishop) Shrum on August 21, 1957 in Poteau, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Carl and Earl Shrum; sisters, Lula Myers, and Irene Shrum; daughter, Darla Davis; two sons-in-law, Doug Davis and Tim Davis. Don always asked everyone he met if they knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; some of his hobbies include working with the cattle and "around the place", spending time with family, especially grandchildren and great grands; member of Springhill Baptist Church where he served as deacon emeritus; most proud of the 65 years God blessed him with his wife, Dixie.

Survivors include: wife, Dixie (Bishop) Shrum; daughters, Donna Deaton and husband David of Poteau, Deanna Davis of Poteau; grandchildren, Daryl Davis and wife Kaycee of Wister; Delaina Davis of Poteau; Daren Davis and Fiancee Jamie of Monroe; Lauren Deaton of Poteau; Larissa Mattox and husband Dustin of Monroe; Logan Deaton and Fiancé Ty of Smithville; great grandchildren, Kix and Ben Davis and Tanner McAlester of Wister; Nieces, Frances Boevers and husband John; Lorraine Odom and husband David; countless other friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Simon Billy, Will Lathrop, Brad McMillin, Paden Evans, Seth McKenzie, and Frankie Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon Bibles.
