Roy
Edward Boggs of Leflore, OK
passed away January 14, 2015 in Daytona
Beach, FL. He was
born in Lone Pine, OK on January 15, 1936. His family moved to southern California just before
WWII where he would grow up and meet the love of his
life, Mary Virginia Kelly. Roy and Mary were married on February 25, 1956 in Chula Vista, CA.
The Boggs family would return to Oklahoma
in 1968 where he would start his career at the Leflore County Assessor’s
Office. He would later be elected to that office and serve for a total twenty
five years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Roy and Mary spent much of
their time traveling to see their kids or just to see the countryside.
He
was preceded in death by his parents Albert & Inez (Hines) Boggs, sister
June Neeley, and sister Patsy Cotarelo. He is survived by his wife Mary Boggs
of the home, daughter Catherine & Lenny Thompson of Lake
Arrowhead, CA, daughter Janet
& Frank Gresham of Daytona Beach, FL, son David & Shelly Boggs of Owasso,
OK, son Stephen & Christy Boggs of Waco, TX, sister
Catherine Monroe of Leflore, and brother Kenneth Boggs of Waco, TX. He
is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Roy’s life was defined by
his belief in and service to the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was a testimony of
his love for his family, generosity to both his friends and to strangers, and
service to his community. He was a friend to everyone he met, whether they
wanted to be or not. Roy
was an avid golfer and was playing a round of golf only months before his
death. He was never seen without a smile on his face. Will Rogers may have never met a man he didn’t
like, but we’ve never met a man who didn’t like Roy Boggs. Although he will be
missed, we rejoice in the fact that he is walking with his savior and getting
to meet more people than he could have ever imagined.
There
will be a viewing at the Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Poteau on Thursday,
January 22nd from 5pm to 8pm. The memorial service will be held at
the funeral home on Friday, January 23rd at 11:00am. Roy will be buried with his family in Leflore, Oklahoma. Donations can be made to Whosoever
Ministries, Inc., P.O. Box 9591,
Daytona Beach, Fl. 32120-9591.(Frank
& Janet Gresham, Directors)
