With her family by her side, Bonnie Mae Payne, 95, of Poteau, Oklahoma passed away on May 31, 2022, of natural causes.
Born on August 25, 1926, in Knott Hole, Oklahoma, Bonnie resided in Poteau where she raised three children, was a loving wife, and owned Bonnie’s Liquor Store from 1960 until her retirement in 2005.
In a time when it was difficult for women, Bonnie not only ran a successful business, she, inspired family members and others with her caring heart, trail-blazing spirit, and sense of humor.
Bonnie is survived by children Bill Newnam of Poteau and Susan Salmeron of Ypsilanti, MI; 7grandchildren (Shane & Shawn Hughes, Raun Williams, Jason Lee, Kelli Johnson, Mike & Missy Newnam) and 12 great-grandchildren.
In remembrance of Bonnie’s unlimited love, are Tom Payne’s stepdaughter Brenda, her husband Mac McDonald and their daughter Heather Gelvin, of Tulsa.
Bonnie never stopped missing those who passed before her: her husband, Thomas Payne, daughter, Linda Williams, parents, Pearl and Jim Brown and siblings, J.R. Hilton, Sonny Brown, and Inez Knight.
