Marie Baxter, 88, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in Poteau. Marie was born October 27, 1932 in Hatfield, AR to Arthur & Rachel (Davis) House. She was a homemaker. Marie loved to work in her vegetable garden and flower beds. She loved to travel, discovering beautiful sites; loved camping, especially with relatives. Marie served God for most of her adult life, teaching children in Sunday School. She was the neighborhood Mom. She loved to read, cook, sew and quilt. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bill Baxter; son, Martin Baxter; grandson, Michael Johnston; brothers, Lloyd House and Arthur “Skip” House; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda and husband, Ken Sisco of Shady Point, OK, Shirley Bush of Hutto, TX, Rhonda Baxter of Shady Point, OK; 8 Grandchildren; 28 Great Grandchildren; 14 Great Great Grandchildren; brothers, Bert House & wife, Darlene of Estacade, OR, Lonnie House & wife, Rogene of Omaha; sisters, Reba Rosipal & husband, Frank of Mena, AR, Marcheta Hughlett & husband, Riley of Brookwood, AL; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Parsley officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Johnston, Alton Johnston, Jonathan Drolet, Jeremy Thorn, Travis Baxter, Ricky Cornelius, Nathan McDaniel. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Baxter and family I am incredibly sorry for your loss and prayers and hugs she will be missed by many I love her she was like grandma to me when I worked at Oaks and she was so sweet and loving. Mrs Baxter go rest high on the mountain and hope to see you soon
