Gilbert Baker

Gilbert Anderson Baker, 71, of Howe, OK passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 in Howe.  Gilbert was born October 13, 1949 in Talihina, OK to Somis & Ida (Wesley) Baker.  Gilbert was a quiet, calm, peaceful man.  He enjoyed reading western books and watching wrestling.  When he was younger he enjoyed hunting with his friends and brothers.  He served in the US Army doing two terms in the Vietnam war.  He worked at Weyerhauser until he retired.  He met his late wife Sharon while working there.  They were married in November of 1995.  They retired in 2005 and moved to Branson.  They traveled all over the US seeing and doing everything they wanted.  They enjoyed several cruises together.  Gilbert enjoyed basketball games of his grandchildren and nephews.  His favorite pastime in the last years was taking his grandkids fishing and to the sale barn to get chickens and ducks.  He is now back with his wife Sharon which was his last desire.

          He never had children of his own but he loved us as his own.  When he was younger he loved playing softball.  He was an avid member of the Choctaw Nation.  He loved his dogs, Cody, Dusty, Cory and Toby.  They got Gracie after they moved back to Howe; moving to be closer to their family.  Gilbert never met a stranger and loved being with his family.  No matter where he went he saw someone he knew.  He enjoyed talking to people and helping people.  He really enjoyed looking at the horses in the pasture and he talked about them.  He enjoyed being out in the shop working on lawnmowers.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon; brothers, Billy Paul Baker, Wendell Baker, Somis Baker Jr; sisters, Ann Sims, Perlie Jefferson and Marie Baker; and nephew, Kevin Baker.

          He is survived by children, Crystal & Dave Shepherd, Daryl & Nikki Thomas, Jorge & Ruby Amezcua; grandchildren, Jace Thomas, Thomas “TC” Allen, Jasmine Thomas, Jarod Wilburn, Jorge “Teto” Amezcua, Fernando Amezcua, Mayra Amezcua, Krystina Shepherd and Liam Shepherd; great grandchild, Tayan Thomas.

          Services will be 2 pm, Friday, February 12, 2021 at Howe Missionary Baptist Church with Larry Stacey officiating.  Burial will follow at Hoteyaby Cemetery, Howe, OK.
