Don Robert Emerson, 73, of Cameron,
OK, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014, in
Greenwood, AR. Don was born September 14, 1941,
in Pontiac, MI, to Donald and Gertrude (McClure)
Emerson. He was a graduate of Cameron
High School and graduated
from the College of the Ozarks. He was owner/operator of various businesses,
including Emerson Moving & Storage and Emerson Transload. He was a past
president of Ft. Smith Jaycees, state VP of Arkansas Jaycees, on the Board of
Trustees for the Arkansas Oklahoma Regional Education Promotion Association,
Inc., past chairman of the Old Fort Days Rodeo, a founder of the Old Fort Days
Dandies and Old Fort Days Barrel Futurity, and was heavily involved in local
politics. Don loved horse racing, livestock shows, rodeo events, and ranching.
He stayed involved with his kids’ and community’s events.
Don is survived by his wife Emmy of
the home; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Jeff Busby of Washington, OK;
Marcie Emerson of Poteau, OK; Laken Emerson and Loren Emerson of the home;
grandchildren Ki, Callie, and Brenna Busby of Washington, OK, and Piper Morgan
of Ft. Smith, AR; and sister Suzanne Emerson Billingsley, along with other
relatives and loved ones. He attended Fuel
Church in Poteau, OK.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2014, at Unite Church
in Spiro, OK,
with Jim Jones and Shane Waldrop officiating.
The visitation is from 6-8p.m. Thursday, December 18, at the
funeral home in Pocola, OK, to visit with relatives and friends. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to hospice.
