Melvin Leon Meeks, 63, of Wister, OK passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 in Wister. Melvin was born December 31, 1946 in Poteau, OK to Vernon "Mutt" & Bessie Iva (Box) Meeks. Melvin was a veteran of the US Marines. He was a coin collector. Politics were his passion. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Kenneth, Gerald & Carrol Meeks. Survivors include one son, Michael Meeks of Summerfield, OK; daughters & sons in law, Melanie & Tony Bradshaw of Wister, OK, Mary & Richard Tackett of Cameron,OK; 5 grandchildren, Cody Meeks, Dalton Brown, Colby Brown, Kyla Brown, & Ashlyn Meeks; mother of his children, Judy Meeks of Wister, OK; sister, Yvonne Dassler of Wister, OK; 3 brothers & sisters in law, Wayne & Linda Meeks, Claude & Kathy Smith, Mack Smith all of Wister, OK. Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jim Cook & Rev. PJ Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, OK. Pallbearers will be Tony Bradshaw, Richard Tackett, Brandon Hemphill, Justin Ward, Lane Titsworth, Scott Bradshaw, Travis Brown, & Cowboy Meeks. The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with friends & relatives.
