Ellis Whigham

Ellis Glen Whigham, 66 of Poteau, OK passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Poteau. Ellis was born in Gilbertown, Alabama on September 17, 1942, to Haskell C. & Edith (King) Whigham. He was the Airport Manager for the past 6+ years. He was a member of the Poteau First United Methodist Church; a 32nd degree Mason (Sebastian Lodge # 706 Ft. Smith, AR); member of the Western Arkansas Scottish Rite, Scimitar Temple. Ellis was a certified aircraft mechanic, graduating from Tulsa County Vo-Tech; a private pilot; avid motorcycle rider; awesome husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend. He was loved and admired by many, especially his 5 wonderful grandsons who worshipped him. Survivors include his wife, Jean Ann of the home; 2 daughters & sons in law, Jeanie Renee & Kirt Scott of Houston, TX, Teresa Ann & Billy Newby of Poteau, OK; 5 Grandsons, Kameron Andrew Scott, Ryan Matthew Scott & Cory Allan Scott all of Houston, William Dalton Newby & Eli Colten Newby of Poteau, OK; father, Haskell C. Whigham of Gilbertown, AL; brother, Kevin T. Whigham of Gilbertown, AL; brothers in law and sister in law, William P. & Diane Huffman of Monteagle, TN, James C. Huffman of Seattle, WA; sister in law and brother in law, Sue & Johnny Owens of Stevenson, AL; aunts and uncle, Christine & Forrest Cornett of Gilbertown, AL, Emil Clanton of Waynesboro, MS, Martha King of Shubuta, MS; uncle & aunt, Hershel & Frances Whigham of Mobile, AL; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Southside Baptist Church in Poteau, OK with Cody McDaniel & Rev. Greg Tener officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK . Pallbearers will be Jack Younger, Baron Wylie, James Weatherford, Robert Hudson, Glenn Thompson and Jim Davis. The family will visit with relatives & friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Glenn Thompson's hangar at Robert S. Kerr Municipal Airport in Poteau, OK

I was very saddened to hear of Ellis's death. I visited with him several times when I would come to inspect the airport. I am so sorry for your loss and have you in my prayers.
