Jimmy D. Akins

Jimmy D. Akins Jimmy D. Akins 84, of Poteau, OK passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008, at Pocola Nursing Home in Pocola, OK. Jimmy was born on April 2, 1924 in Latham, Oklahoma to Henry & Laura (Gregory) Akins. Jimmy was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving during World War II; a Mason; and retired from the Oklahoma State Highway Department in Poteau. His wife, Mae Bell Akins; a brother, 2 sisters, & his parents precede him in death. Jimmy is survived by his daughter & son in law, Carol & Davie Spindle of Poteau, OK; a son & daughter in law, Henry & Jeannie Akins of Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Kristi Spindle, Audrey & husband Raymond Ritthaler, Stephen & wife Lori Rutledge, Jamie & husband Keith Smith, Jimmy & wife Amanda Akins; 15 great grandchildren; a daughter in law Shirley Thornburg of Fanshawe, OK, a sister Willie Ervin of Poteau, OK, a brother, Dave Akins of Poteau, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; and many beloved friends. Funeral services for Jimmy were held at 10:00 am Friday, December 5, 2008 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, OK with the Reverend Jimmy D. Cook & Jeff Little officiating. Interment followed the services at Iron Bridge Cemetery in Keota, OK with arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, OK. Pallbearers were his Masonic brothers.
