James Houston "Hoot" Jackson
James Houston “Hoot” Jackson, 71, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Hot Springs, AR. Hoot was born July 1, 1940 in Tahlequah, OK to Hyrum & Evelyn (Wann) Jackson. He was a veteran of the National Guard. He worked in metal fabrication. Hoot was a member of Summerfield Baptist Church. He was baptized in Holson Creek in 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lois Jackson; his parents, Hyrum Jackson, Arden & Evelyn Evans; & brother, AC Evans.
Survivors include his son & daughter in law, Jeff & Traci Jackson of Poteau; daughter & son in law, Julie & Kenneth Shipley of Poteau; grandchildren, Jane, Jaci, Blainey, Brody & Jentri; great grandchildren, Journi & MaKenzi; brother, Larry Jackson of Stilwell, OK; sister, Mary Sparks of Gruver, TX; sister in law, Vickie Evans of Summerfield; sister in law & brother in law, Dot & Jerry Ford of Poteau, OK; niece & nephew, Kari Collins of Buffalo Valley & Daron Evans of Dallas, TX; special friend, Beverly Cantwell of Poteau, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.
Services will be 10 AM, Thursday, February 23, 2012 in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook & Rev. Phil McGehee officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. Pallbearers will be Cletus Hall, Don McMillin, Rusty White, Mark McMillin, Dustin Reece, Scotty White, Cliff Ryburn, Mike Sockey. Honorary pallbearers will be Spider Webb, Glen Thompson, Babe Smith, James Lynch, Jerry Neff, Frank Jones, Larry Poe, and all members of the Poteau Men’s Athletic Club.
The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Hoot was one of the good guys. He valued friendship over money. I think that is why he had so many friends. I am honored to be one of his friends. He will be missed by all that knew him. (Hoot, Thank you for being my friend). God bless you family.
