MIKE CROOK



     Robert Michael Crook passed away with his family by his side early in the morning on February 26, 2016. He fought a good fight and is now with his Lord and Savior. He was known as Mike, Mick and Mickey to friends and loved ones. He recently became Poppa to his Angels at the Talihina VA Center. 
Mike was born in Leon, Iowa on August 26, 1941 to Robert Edward and Wilma Alberta Stewart Crook. He was preceded in death by both his parents and siblings Bertie Crook,  Sandra Crook and Raymond Mullins.
      Mike was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the Poteau Chapter 63 of the DAV and was a past Commander. He was also a member of the Poteau Masonic Lodge #46.  He worked as a journeyman iron worker and was a proud, 50 year member of the Iron Workers Local 584, always working hard to provide for his family. He married Nancy Kaye Anderson on November 9, 1966 and they shared 50 beautiful, happy years together raising three children who didn't fall far from the tree.  He was a man of his word and taught his children to have a strong work ethic. 
         He is survived by his wife Nancy; children, Michael Neal Dawson and wife Lisa, Karen Miller and husband Brian, Trena Kitchens and husband Gary, Tracy Crook and Michael Crook; grandchildren, Alyse Sanchez, Mike Dawson, Velvet Miller, Shauna Kitchens, Chelsea Baker, Katrina Farrar, Kayla Adams, great grandchildren, Faith, Lilly, Aaron; siblings Stanley Mullins and wife Tina, Mark Mullins and wife, Terri, Billie Joyce Smith and husband Mike; special brothers Tex, Bug, Elvis Dean and Wiley Williamson and many nieces and nephews.  The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Mike's Angels and Dr. King at the Talihina VA Center and Diane, Donna and Jackie at Peachtree Hospice. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Ledbetter, Carl Cosgrove, Curtis Baker, Mack Dyer, Max McVey, and Joe Milligan.

A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at 11 am Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Evans & Miller Chapel of Memories. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm. Memorials may be made in Mike's name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
