George Reaves



George L. Reaves, 74, of Pocola, OK passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 in Pocola.  George was born April 5, 1941 in Pocola to Harold & Zelma (Kannady) Reaves.  George was an educator for 32 years in Poteau Schools - Teacher, Coach, Administrator, High School Principal.   He enjoyed the years he spent in Poteau and the lives he touched!  George loved to hunt and fish.   In his early years he worked on pipeline - the youngest Oklahoma member of the pipeline union.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ella Jane, the "love of his life".   

     Survivors include his son, Britt Reaves of Pocola, OK; grandson, Hayden; granddaughter, Alyssa; sister, Linda Carter of Pocola, OK; niece, Lisa Buller; other family & friends.


Services will be 2 pm, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ft. Smith, AR.  Pallbearers will be Jesse Womack, Brad Cagle, David Cagle, Doug Sanders Jr., Bobby Martindale & Tommy Henry.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Basinger, HIlton Kannady, Jamie Levings and Speedy Wilson & Robert Dickinson.

   The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Thank you for your leadership Mr. Reaves! I am proud to say I am a PHS graduate and have done great things with my life all because of your leadership! You instilled pride and motivation for all of the graduates and always showed us class. God Bless your family in the days ahead. You will be missed, but always thought of with the utmost respect!
