Thurman Dorey

Thurman Dorey, 101, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 at his home in Poteau.  Thurman was born January 10, 1911 in Wichita, KS to Wilfred & Bertha (Woods) Dorey.  He worked as a coal miner for 17 years  and as a carpenter for 28 ½ years in the San Francisco Bay Area and many other places.   Thurman was a member of Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Ruth; son, Donald Dorey; brothers, WilfredJr. (Buster), Herman and Leon Dorey; sisters, Ruth Fair, Dorothy White, and Louise Walker.  Thurman was a loving father and grandfather.  He loved to paint portraits, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe & Princess Diana were among his favorites.

Survivors include his sons & daughters in law, James & Sharon Dorey,  Larry & Kacey Dorey of Poteau; grandchildren & their spouses, Natalie & Randell Newby of Yale, OK, Mark & Staci Dorey of Denver, CO, John Dorey of Pasadena, CA; great grandchildren, Britni, Brooke, Joshua Newby, Christian & James Dorey, Collin Dorey; brothers & sisters in law, Bob & Wanda Dorey, Rob & Sue Dorey of Poteau, OK, Leo Dorey of Roseville, CA, Harrell & Barbara Dorey of Pinole, CA, William (Bill) Dorey of Poteau, OK; sister, Wilma White of Rio Linda, CA; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Poteau, OK with Rev. Delbert Hodges and Randell Newby officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Joshua Newby, Hank Collins, Tony Collins, Bill Mooneyham, Billy Hammers, Charles Diedrich.

The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
