Carmelita Hicks Martin transitioned to Glory with her family
at her side on August 31, 2020.
Carmelita was born on October 25, 1930 to Lizzy Edith (Bennett) and
James Wesley Hicks in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
A graduate of Muskogee High School she worked as a waitress and later as
an administrative assistant. She was an
artist, seamstress, quilter, and avid gardener.
She was a wonderful cook and loved to dance and sing. She is preceded in death by her mother and
father, her brother, Jim Hicks, brother Wesley Lafayette Hicks, her daughter
Susan Caryl Shelton, and two great granddaughters.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn
Sprinkles and husband C.A of Gore, Ok. Four Children, Carmelita Ann White, of
Glenpool, Ok.; Teresa Leigh Hall and husband David, of Wister, Ok.; James B.
Graham III and wife Nancy of Tulsa, Ok.; and Mary Elizabeth Merrill and husband
Brian of Broken Arrow, Ok.; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great,
great grandchildren, and countless nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation
to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Ft Gibson National Cemetery.
