Mamie
Nell Hughes, 88, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in
Poteau. Mamie was born March 14, 1931 in
Poteau to Morgan & Susan (Garrett) Cochran. She was an amazing homemaker and business
owner alongside her late husband Arlie Hughes.
Together they owned A&M Food Market for over 20 years. Mamie loved sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, oftentimes
making clothes & costumes for her grandchildren. She took pride in her home and was an
excellent home decorator. Later in
life, she began caring for children in
her home. She loved and cared for them
as she did her own grandchildren. In her
spare time, she enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and crafting. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents;
sisters, Inez Ratteree, Marie Reeves; brothers, Clifford, George &
"Nuna" Junior and two infant brothers.
Survivors
include her sons, Steve & Virginia Hughes, Barry & Cheryl Hughes, all
of Poteau; grandchildren, Amy & Doug Martinez of Poteau, Brian Hughes of
Lakeside, MT, Erin & Matt Akers of Poteau, Natalie & Anthony Myers of
Fayetteville, AR, Michael & Samantha Hughes of Poteau; great grandchildren,
Dayton & Dawson Martinez, Isabelle & Hannah Akers, Arlie & Benjamin
Myers & Mason Hughes. She was
awaiting the birth of her first great-great grandson, later this year. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews,
other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services
will be 2 pm, Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Phil McGehee and
Jim Cook officiating. Interment will
follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.
Pallbearers will be Brian Hughes, Michael Hughes, Doug Martinez, Dayton
Martinez, Dawson Martinez. Honorary
pallbearers will be Scott Reeves, Matt Akers, Anthony Myers, Charlie Sanders.
