Grady Leon Garner

Grady Leon Garner, 78, was born Aug. 30, 1941 in Louisville, KY. He moved to Wister, OK at the age of 3 months with his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Z.M. Garner. Graduating from Poteau in 1959, he attended Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University, where he received his master's degree in electrical engineering.   After college Grady served two years active duty in the United States Army, where he became a first lieutenant and received a Bronze Star.  On discharge from the Army he worked for an engineering firm in Tulsa, OK for several years before moving his family to Poteau in 1974 to join his dad's business Garner Electric Co Inc.
Grady married Sharon Gregory on Dec. 21, 2006, and they moved to Hot Springs Village Feb. 16, 2018. Grady passed away on his 13th wedding anniversary, Dec. 21, 2019. He was an avid hunter and fisherman relishing the deer camp set up by the Garner clan for 55 years at Panther Creek, and his 30 years hunting elk in Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Zelman and Dartha Garner.
Grady was survived by his wife, Sharon Garner of Hot Springs Village; 3 sons Rhett, Jarot, and Seth Garner; along with several grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and John Manaulan; and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Anita Garner.
Grief never ends, but it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of LOVE.
A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor his life will be held in the spring by Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 30, sponsored by Poteau United Methodist Church, 109 S Harper St., Poteau, OK. 74953
