Vonda Lorece Melton-Smith

Funeral Service for Vonda Lorece Melton-Smith, 86 of Tulsa, Oklahoma will be at 2pm on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma with Floyd Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Vonda was born on August 26, 1936 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Nina Alba (Childers) Melton and George Washington Melton and passed away on October 8, 2022 in Houston, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Emily Johnston; grandmother, Grace Melton; son, Walter Dewayne Durant; sisters, Lorene Barbee, and Lois Jenkins; brother, Bill Melton; great grandchildren, Amerie Kraft, and Dalen Lomax.

Survivors include: daughters, Donna Durant Macon and husband Robert, Sandra Berry and husband Roley, Cheryl Hayes and husband William; grandchildren, Donya Thomas, Kerry Chaffin, Dianna Waller, Cheryl Stowers, Eric Breedlove, Whitney Lomax, Heather Breedlove, Lori Gainer, Daniel Kemp, Robert Kemp; 29 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sister, Lenora Thomason; brother, Leon Melton; numerous other relatives and loved ones.  

Pallbearers will be Eric Breedlove, Logan Breedlove, Darren Perry, Torrey Waller, Daniel Kemp, and Alexander Robinson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dillon Waller, Cody Waller, Corey Waller, and Kaden Wooldridge.

Viewing will be Thursday from 6-8pm.

Vonda has been a longtime family friend and best friend to my sister, Betty Mackey Durant. Vonda will be missed by all who knew her. She was a very caring lady and always ready to give a word of encouragement.
