William David Burgess, 69,
of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday,
October 3, 2017 in Muskogee, OK. Bill
was born September 27, 1948 in Poteau, OK to Chester Sylvester & Wana Sue
(Chester) Burgess. Bill was a Free Will
Baptist Pastor, a handyman, maintenance man & case manager. He had a
Masters Degree and was a veteran of the US Navy. He married Naoma Fostine Scroggins on May 24,
1975. Bill enjoyed many things which
include riding motorcycles on nice days with his wife and sons. He also loved to mow his yard; loving the smell
of fresh cut grass. He loved spending
time with his grandchildren. Playing his
guitar and singing were his favorites.
He enjoyed skiing in Tahoe with his family; little things like grilling,
watching his fireplace gleaming on cold winter days. Bill once said if you didn't pay me to
preach; I'd pay you to let me. Bill
loved to preach; loved going to church; and most of all Bill loved the
Lord. He was preceded in death by his
dad; grandson, William David Burgess III, sister in law, Laura M. Burgess,
& many other family members.
Survivors include his
wife of 42 years, Fostine of the home;
sons & daughters in law, William David II & Bobbie Burgess, Nathan Lee & Casandra Burgess, Titus Ray
& Tia Burgess; mother, Wana Sue Burgess Dobbins all of Poteau, OK;
brothers, Chester Dale Burgess of Oakland, CA; sister & brother in law,
Deborah Sue (Burgess) & Larry G. Wilson of Reno, NV; grandchildren, Nathan
Lee Burgess II, Hailey Alexis Burgess, Charity Naomi (Lynn) Burgess, Tristen,
Chyenne & Brayden Wade Burgess, Ashley & Jose Rivera of Poteau; great
granddaughter, Kaydence Rayne Rivera; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10 am,
Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim
Cook officiating. Interment will follow
in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, OK.
Bill would love donation of
Gideon Bibles which may be purchased by calling the funeral home.
