Carl Archie King, 96, of
Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Poteau. Carl was born June 10, 1920 in Waldron , AR
to Wilson James & Kelly (Parker) King.
Carl was raised in Heavener, OK
where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. WWII interrupted his first year in
college. He joined the US Army and
became a bridge builder for the 322nd Combat Engineer Battalion in 1942. He was at Normandy and Bastogne in
France and in Germany. After the war he married Mary Louise Barnhill
of Poteau, OK in 1946. They had a
daughter, Carla one year later and a son Larry one year after that. They lived in the Bay Area of California
until 1991. When Carl and Louise retired
and returned to the place they loved - Poteau, OK. They were both active in the Howe Senior
Center. Carl was well known for his wonderful sense of humor. Mary
Louise passed away in 2011. He was also
preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Stuart & daughter, Carla in
1993.
Survivors include his son,
Larry King of Poteau, OK; brother, Wilson King of Poteau; sister, Betty Dean of
Brentwood, CA; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 2 pm,
Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Evans Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery,
Poteau.
