Dorothy "Dottie" Tucker



Dorothy G  “Dottie” Tucker, 81, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in Poteau.  She was born January 9, 1938 in Cameron, OK to James H. & Renetta (Shipman) McBee.  She was a member of the Faith Community Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her children, Robyn Tittle & husband Eddie, Noel Barnett & wife Laurie, Jerry Barnett; 7 grandchildren, Nicholas Manasco, Lora Yadon, Jenny Smith, Taylor Garrison, Aaron Barnett, Natalie Barnett, Traci Booze; 10 great grandchildren; stepson, Danny Tucker; brothers, Lloyd & Jerry McBee; nieces and caregivers, Beth Tucker & Lauren Durham; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Monday December 30, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Phil McGehee officiating.

Dave Butler

      Dave Hershel Butler, 71, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in Poteau.  Dave was born December 21, 1947 in Idabel,OK to Doc & Dora (Eades) Butler who preceded him in death.  He was a welder and a veteran of the US Army.  He was preceded by brothers, Freddy & Dale Butler.
      Dave is survived by nephew, Justin Butler & great nephew, Jeff Butler; other relatives & friends.
Memorial services will be 2 pm, Monday, December 23, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Jim Cook officiating.

Verna Sue Ward


Verna Sue Ward, 72, of  Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 in Oklahoma City.  Verna Sue was born September 2, 1947 in Poteau, OK to Guy Roy & Mary Louise (Pierce) Robertson.  She was a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess and choir member at the First Christian Church in Poteau for over 30 years; as well as a member of Poteau Musical Arts.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Ward; brothers, Louis Carter & Jerry Robertson.

Survivors include her daughter & son in law, Lori & Todd Tarrant of Crescent, OK; son & daughter in law, Brett Wayne & Amanda Ward of Marble Hill, MO; grandchildren, Adalyn Leigh Ward, Evan Dale Ward; sister & brother in law, Erma Lou & Robert Crowder of Sun City, AZ; brother & sister in law, Roy Gene & Judy Robertson of Cameron, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Friday, December 20, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Poteau, OK with Rev. Gary Vancil officiating.   Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.

Dell Eugene Heavener




Dell Eugene Heavener, 81, of Oaks, OK passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 in Fayetteville, AR.  Dell was born July 15, 1938 in Howe, OK to Thomas & Mamie (Reece) Heavener, who preceded him in death.  Dell was an educator and a veteran of the US Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn; daughters, Gwenda Heavener of
Dallas, TX, Sheila & Tom Holly of Clarkston, MI; sons, Dell Jr. & Rhonda Heavener of Kansas, OK, Randy & Lori Heavener of Eureka, KS; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren;  sisters, Shirley Ducote & Stuart of Dallas, TX,  Brenda Lowe & Eric of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers, Arthur Heavener of Cameron, OK, Gary Don Heavener of Poteau, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Springhill Baptist Church, Howe with Bro. Terry Wofford and Bro. John Crowley.  Interment will follow at Monroe Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Weston Thompson, Trace  Heavener, Jeremy Heavener, John Holly, Brandon Heavener & Austin Heavener.    

Audrey Zirbel


Audrey Louise Zirbel, 93, of Wells, ME (formerly of Howe & Poteau, OK) passed away December 3, 2019 at Fort Smith, AR.  Audrey was born March 24, 1926 in Chester, WV to Bernard & Ada (Swisher) Bailey.  She worked as a riveter in the 1940’s in California where she met and married Paul Pennington (US Navy).  After his tour Paul worked for the railroad and they moved to Barstow.  They were blessed with three boys.  After Paul’s death, Audrey married Arthur Zirbel and they moved to Howe, OK where they lived for 20 years.  Audrey was a dog breeder who raised poodles and fox terriers and sold many in the area.   After Arthur passed away ( 12/15/1984)  Audrey moved to Wister and later to Maine near her son, Jeff.  At the age of 88 Audrey wanted to “move back home to Oklahoma; which she did so that when she passed she could be buried near Arthur.

Audrey is survived by her sons, Paul Vernon Pennington of Eureka, CA, Jeffrey Lee Pennington of Wells, ME and James Mark Pennington of Wister, OK; numerous grandchildren; siblings, Tom Bailey of Fresno, CA and Doris & Dusty Rhodes of Mission Viejo, CA; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Private services were held Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Fairhill/Knothole Cemetery, Cameron, OK.
