Shirley Landrum


          Shirley Gunnells Landrum was born March 17, 1943 and departed this life October 25, 2019.  Shirley was the daughter of James Daniel & Edna (Essman) Gunnells.  She was a long time employee of Walt’s Steak House in Poteau, where she made many lifelong friends.  But her working career was as a 35 year employee of Carl Albert State College in food services as head cook.  She loved the kids at the cafeteria; especially Coach Pollard and his players who held a special place in her heart; and the basketball boys always had a “Mom” away from home.  Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother.  Her grandson was the light of her life.  Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Nancy Deeds & Barbara Voss.
          She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lynn Gillham; grandson, Timothy Phagan Gillham and nephew, James Anglin; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
          Services will be 1 pm, Monday, October 28, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Al Trotter, Andy Barnes, Tim Wilson, Rex Smith, Eric Gallant & Travis Loggains. 
          In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Kiamichi Technology Foundation /Culinary Arts, c/o Peck CPA, 207 S. McKenna, Poteau, OK  74953
          The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-6 pm to visit with friends and relatives

Alvie W. "Scott" McKnight

Alvie Wendell “Scott” McKnight, 72, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Heavener, OK.  Scott was born June 17, 1947 in Darwin, OK to Alvie Gordon & Irene Marie (Dunham) McKnight.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force.  Scott worked as district manager for Citizens Utility Company in Kingman, AZ.  He was preceded in death by his parents.



Survivors include his sisters, Alvietta & Gary Howell of Poteau, OK, Rehna Barbour of Borger, TX; brother, Jimmy & Connie McKnight of Amarillo, TX; 2 nieces & 4 nephews; 4 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 2 great great nieces; aunts, uncles, other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Memorial services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Reed.  Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Marie Brown





Marie Brown, 74, of  Poteau, OK passed away Saturday October 19, 2019 in Poteau.  Marie was born  June 26, 1945 in Tulsa, OK to Albert & Edna (Smith) Chapman.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Marie Brown Davis; siblings, Albert Chapman Jr., Mary Plunkett, & Betty Milligan.


Survivors include her husband, Darrell Brown of  Poteau, OK; daughter, Melissa Brown & husband Peter Neff of Grove, OK; grandchildren, Britton Davis of  Miramar, FL., Natasha & husband David Teeters of  Ramstein, Germany, Taylor Davis of  Northlake, TX, Isaac Davis of Tulsa, OK.; great grandchildren, Hunter, Jefferson, & Rylin Teeters; sister, Susie & husband Trey Mixer of Springfield, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK  with Revs. Phil McGehee & Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Beggs Cemetery in Beggs, OK.

To honor Marie’s love of Christmas feel free to wear Christmas apparel to the funeral.

Marie lived a rich and full life filled with love, laughter and fun.  Marie was born on June 26, 1945 to Lenora and Albert Chapman in Tulsa, OK.  Marie lived in a variety of towns in Oklahoma and California growing up and graduated from Okmulgee, OK High School.  In the early 1960’s Marie met Darrell and they were married in 1963.  Subsequently she raised two daughters while traveling with her family throughout the U.S. on various jobs.  Marie and her family ultimately settled in Poteau, OK where she worked at AES Shady Point and later owned Marie Brown Realty.  Marie’s biggest passion was spending time with her family and friends usually ensuring everyone was well fed.  Marie was always on the go with a wide variety of interests including her delicious homestyle cooking, extensive (world) traveling, photography, variety of crafts, all things Christmas, casinos and playing cards.  Marie was a phenomenal wife, mother (and mother-in-law), grandmother (and great), sister, aunt and friend and whose legacy will live on through those whose lives she touched.
