Mary Sue Fry


Mary Sue Fry was born on January 6th, 1933 to William and Ellen Sandlin in Poteau, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being outside and working in her gardens. She was a volunteer at the hospital in Poteau, worked as a teacher's aide and enjoyed shopping. Mary was a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Poteau. Mary loved her family and enjoyed spending every minute with them. Mary Sue Fry passed away from this life on Sunday, July 21st, 2019 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mary is survived by her son, Bruce Fry of Poteau, Ok; Rodney and wife Elaine Fry of Longview, Texas; son Bruce Fry of Poteau, Ok; daughter, Carole Peters of Ensenada, Baja California; two grandchildren, Jason and Damon Meza, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Ellen and William Sandlin; husband, Sid Fry; five brothers, Blan, Archie, Cecil, Elmer and Leland Sandlin; three sisters, Maudie Thompson, Neoma O'Daniels, Aline Williamson.

Pallbearers will be Tim O'Daniels, Tommy Thompson, Joe Neugin, Ronnie Blake, Brian Smith and Terry Fry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Fry, Steve Smith, Todd Fry and Waylon Fry

Services will be on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church in Talihina, Oklahoma with Bro. Jim Reed officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Talihina City Cemetery in Talihina, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of McCarn Funeral Service of Talihina.

Josephine Cooper


Josephine Cooper, 82, passed away on July 19, 2019 at her home with family in Wister, OK. She was the widow of Jerry Cooper. They shared 43 years of marriage together.  Born in Wister, OK, she was the daughter of Toy and Thelda Adams. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, of Wister, OK. She taught school for 31 years, 29 of those in Wister. She had wonderful children in school, and loved every one of them.

She was preceded in death by one brother Sherman Adams and baby sister Wanda Faye Adams; parents Toy and Thelda Adams;  grandson Justin Welch and great grandson Dawson Buddy Cooper.

She is survived by her son Martin and wife Dora Cooper of Wister, OK. Grandchildren, Travis and wife Kallie Cooper, of Huntington, AR. Trevor and wife Tarah Cooper of Cypress, CA. Emily Cooper and Cody Cash, of Wister, OK. Cody Cooper of Wister, OK. DelDeana and husband Josh Waymire, of Poteau, OK. Monty Billenger, of Wister, OK. She also had 6 precious great grandchildren, numerous family, and loved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Monday, July 22, 2019 at First Southern Baptist Church, Wister, OK with Rev. Keith Stewart & Rev. Trevor Cooper officiating.  Interment will follow at Summerfield Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Donny Martin, John Paul McAlester, Bud Morgan, Richard Gibson, Jos Gibson & Billy Martin.  Honorary pallbearers will be Quentin Sanders, Harold Gibson, Steve Walden, Derek Brewer, Scott Shadwick, Thad Martin & Chad Craig.  The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm to visit with friends & relatives. 

Tony Ray Matney


Tony Ray Matney, 74, of LeFlore, OK passed away July 17, 2019 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Tony was born August 9, 1944  at Pete & Ellen Kitchens home in LeFlore.  He was a Green Beret in the US Army; a truck driver, boiler maker and for most of his life he did what he loved best, mechanic.  He retired as owner/operator of Don Allen’s Machine Shop.  Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete & Ellen Kitchens; his mother & stepfather, Martha & Ed Ferguson.



He is survived by his partner of 20 years, Joyce Mixon of Shady Point, OK; son, Loren Matney of LeFlore, OK; grandson, Kyle Matney of Arkoma, OK; a host of Kitchens cousins and Ingle family.



Memorial services will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Jim Cook & Larry Matthiesen officiating.    In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-7 pm.

Debra Kay Thompson


Debra Kay Thompson, 61, of Wister, OK passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Wister.  Debra was born August 16, 1957 in Bonham, TX to Ray Neal  & Eva Juanita (McEwen) Thompson. Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Franklin Dyer 11/19/2001.



Survivors include her children, Angela Gail Copeland of Wister, OK, Christi Williams of Seymour, TX, Misty Grounds Warner of Arlington, TX; granddaughter, Celestial Rose Campbell; sisters, Kimberly Owens & Kathy Yarbrough of Denison, TX, Becky Jarrett of Galveston, TX; aunt, Donna Smith; her cat, Miss Kitty; numerous nieces & nephews and close friends.  Debra will be interred in Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham, TX.

Billy Dean Sockey


Billy Dean Sockey, 76, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019  in Ft. Smith, AR.  Billy was born November 6, 1942 in Buck Creek, OK to Ruben Lamar & Margorie (Bowen) Sockey.  He was a  bricklayer.  He was preceded in death by his father Ruben, mother, Margorie Caldwell & son, Donnie Sockey.



Survivors include  his sons, Eddie & Lesa Sockey of Shady Point, OK, Michael Sockey of Poteau, OK; brother, Ruben & Janet Sockey of Poteau; grandchildren, Timothy & Leslie Sockey of Haw Creek, OK, Holly & Patrick West of Roland, OK, Breanna Sockey of Panama, OK, Kayley Sockey of Shady Point, OK; great grandchildren, Summer, Autumn & Drake West; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe, OK.  The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with family and friends.

Harriet Dinsmore Hunter




Harriet Dinsmore  Hunter, 91, of Pocola, OK passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 in Pocola.  Harriet was born August 2, 1927 in Franklin, NH to Milton Dean& Eleanor (Kelly) Stone.  Harriet worked as a Registered Nurse, school nurse and county nurse administrator for 50 years.  She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and lived her life in service to others.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bockman & Wilbur Hunter; sisters, Betty & Jean and brother, George Stone.

          Survivors include her son, James M. Bockman & Denys of Franklin, TN; daughter, Elizabeth Holmes & David of Pocola, OK; granddaughters, Emily Hunter of Pocola, Kaylee Hunter of Springdale, AR, Nicole Peden of Anchorage, AK, Christie Holmes & Julie Lowery of Ft. Smith & Sherry Lindenau of Pocola; stepdaughters, Janice, Vianna & Geneva Marie; numerous great grandchildren & other loved ones.

          Memorial services will be held 2 pm, Friday, July 19, 2019 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola, OK.
