Wilda Jean “WOODY” Humpherys was born in Weaverville,
California on Feb. 28, 1949. She left to be with her Heavenly Father, March 4,
2019.
She was the middle child to James Thomas and Mary Nell
(Smith) Humpherys. Her older sister Diane could not say Wilda, and it came out
Wood which progressed to “Woody”. This unique name was just the beginning of a
dynamic personality, that was well known in Leflore County.
She grew up in a characteristic country home, learning a
work ethic that comes from years of helping with farm life, hauling hay and
riding horses for fun. She was known for her striking looks and her flashy
style. Woody was a single mother who was determined to provide the best for her
daughters. She did this by using her gift for style and skills with hair to
build a successful hair salon that is well known to women and men of Leflore
County.
Her humble, but engaging personality, along with an eye for
beauty, has provided many men and women with increased confidence and overall
positivity with a simple trip to the “CLIP JOINT”. Her generosity was
something that she tried to be shy about. She helped many people in need
without them ever being aware of it. She was always for the underdog.
Woody was a very spiritual lady, with great faith in her
Heavenly father. She was not afraid to tell you about God or the hope he
provides. She was an “upper” to all those around her, and encouraged others to
surround themselves with people who “fill your basket, not empty it.” She
was a very candid person and did not hesitate to tell you if you were headed
down the wrong road or that you were wearing the wrong make up, lol.
Her girls, Shawn and Shanan, were the love and pride of her
life. She loved her grandchildren and provided them with unconditional love
from their “Bubby”.
Woody is survived by two daughters, Shawn Brewster (and
husband Steve), of Poteau, and Shanan Shipman and husband Billy Gene, of
Heavener; one sister, Diane Putman, of Muse; two grandsons Grant Shipman and
Brooks Brewster; four granddaughters Keylee Shipman, Sydnee Shipman, Brittany
Brewster and Casi Brewster; one niece, DaNell Butler; nephew, Lane Putman.
She is also survived by her estranged husband (with divorce
pending at time of death), Clonie Joe Holland; and his daughter, Tara Hollan.
Woody was a loving mother, sister, Bubby, aunt, and friend
to all who knew her. She spread kindness and joy throughout her life. She made
a lasting difference in the lives of so many people with her warm smile and
compassion for others.
The family invites friends to join them for Woody’s
Celebration of Life Friday at 2 p.m. at Covenant Church in Poteau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to
the “Woody” Beauty College Memorial Fund at Community State Bank, 1409 North
Broadway, Poteau, Ok. 74953, which will be utilized to fund a scholarship to a
deserving student pursuing a career in cosmetology.
Evans & Miller is not in charge of the service but we wanted to share this obituary for this wonderful lady to help her friends see these arrangements.
