Paul Oliver Nichols, 92, of
Poteau, OK, entered the gates of Heaven on February 15, 2018, at the Oklahoma Veteran's
Center in Talihina, OK. He was born in Hatfield, AR, on June 22, 1925, to
Austin B. & Cleo V. (Collins) Nichols. He served his country,
in the Navy, during WWII, then re-enlisted, with the Army, during the Korean
War. Paul was a loving son, brother, father & grandfather. He was
also a songwriter, with a great love & passion for country
music. He provided live music at the
Senior Citizen's Center in Poteau and several other venues, all over Leflore
County, for years and entertained at the Veteran's Center on occasion.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; step-father, Walter Durant; step-mother, Sadie Nichols; his four children, Paulette Harris, Shirley
Neff, Frank Nichols & Larry Nichols; two sisters, Jean Bass & Pearl
Bost; and five brothers, C.R. Durant, Carl Durant, Johnny Durant, Walter Durant
& Charles Durant, Odell Nichols.
Paul is survived by a son,
Paul Hacker of Oklahoma City, OK; Eight grandchildren, Shawna Neff Martin, Jon
Sloan, Ron Sloan, Lisa Nichols Sawyer, Frank Nichols Jr., Tony Nichols, Marie Neff Pitchford and Tonya Teter; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; Two
sisters, Mildred Huddleston of Oklahoma City, OK and Carolyn Baca &
husband, Archie of Poteau, OK; One brother, Bobby Nichols of Heavener, OK; Sister
in Law, Edna Nichols; Special friend, Nancy Duncan; And many, many friends
& loved ones.
Services will
be held at 10 am, Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Evans Chapel of Memories,
Poteau, OK. Interment will be in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, OK.
Pallbearers
will be Tony Nichols, Jon Sloan, Shawna Neff Martin, Brody Martin, Tim Stinson
& Danny Stinson.
