Virginia Wright


Virginia Lorene Wright, 89, of Pocola, OK passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Virginia was born June 13, 1930 in Pocola, OK to Byron & Emma (Pipkins) Sykes.  She was preceded in death by her sons, Kenny & Mike Wright.
          Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Simco of Litchfield, NE; grandson, Daniel Simco of Kearney, NE; great grandchildren, Katie, Caleb, Ryhanna & Gracie; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
          Services will be 10 am, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK with Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Ft. Smith, AR.  Pallbearers will be Aaron, Kenny, Dave & Michael Pipkins, Roy Walker, Daniel Simco.
          The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Claude Wilburn Taylor


Claude Wilburn Taylor, 84, of  Panama, OK passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Spiro.  Claude was born November 18, 1935 in Spiro, OK  to Berkeley & Flora (Barnes) Taylor.  He was a veteran of the US Navy.  Claude was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jackie Richardson Taylor; 4 brothers & 2 sisters.

Survivors include his children, Nena Taylor of Poteau, OK MiShelle & Kevin Dye of Shady Point, OK, Michael Taylor of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Lynnsey & David deMontigny, Katlin Taylor, Bryan Dye, Sydney Taylor; great grandchildren, Kori Taylor & Allyson deMontigny; daughters, Tina Fargo & Tonya Phillips; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Old Bokoshe Cemetery Pavilion,  Bokoshe, OK with Jim Cook officiating.  Pallbearers will be Kevin Dye, Bryan Dye, Michael Taylor, Don Richardson, Jack Taylor, David deMontigny.

The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Helen Jo Duke


Helen Jo Duke, 76, of Muldrow, OK passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in Muldrow.  Helen was born June 3, 1943 in Poteau, OK to Woodrow & Opal Pauline (Smith) Chaney.  She was a retired seamstress at Riverside.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Duke; children, Larry Duke, Cynthia Duke, Tina Edwards; brothers, Johnny, Tommy & Donnie Chaney; sister, Dorothy Chaney.



Survivors include her daughters, Donna Orsburn of Panama, OK, Angela Williams of Muldrow, OK; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Effie Patterson; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Randy Cothran officiating.      

Mamie Hughes


Mamie Nell Hughes, 88, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Poteau.  Mamie was born March 14, 1931 in Poteau to Morgan & Susan (Garrett) Cochran.   She was an amazing homemaker and business owner alongside her late husband Arlie Hughes.  Together they owned A&M Food Market for over 20 years.  Mamie loved sewing.  She was an excellent seamstress, oftentimes making clothes & costumes for her grandchildren.  She took pride in her home and was an excellent home decorator.  Later in life,  she began caring for children in her home.  She loved and cared for them as she did her own grandchildren.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and crafting.  Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Inez Ratteree, Marie Reeves; brothers, Clifford, George & "Nuna" Junior and two infant brothers.

Survivors include her sons, Steve & Virginia Hughes, Barry & Cheryl Hughes, all of Poteau; grandchildren, Amy & Doug Martinez of Poteau, Brian Hughes of Lakeside, MT, Erin & Matt Akers of Poteau, Natalie & Anthony Myers of Fayetteville, AR, Michael & Samantha Hughes of Poteau; great grandchildren, Dayton & Dawson Martinez, Isabelle & Hannah Akers, Arlie & Benjamin Myers & Mason Hughes.  She was awaiting the birth of her first great-great grandson, later this year.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,  loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Evans Chapel of  Memories, Poteau, OK with Phil McGehee and Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Brian Hughes, Michael Hughes, Doug Martinez, Dayton Martinez, Dawson Martinez.  Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Reeves, Matt Akers, Anthony  Myers, Charlie Sanders.

Audrey Faye Thornburg


Audrey Faye Thornburg, 82, of  Fanshawe, OK passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 in Fort Smith, AR.  Audrey was born May 12, 1937 in Octavia, OK to William & Dessie (Whitington) Summers.  She was retired from working at a garment factory as well as custodian at Fanshawe Schools.  Audrey loved to mow grass, pick weeds, play solitaire and dice games.  She loved spending time with her family and loved ones.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy Thornburg; sons, Billy Dee & Robert Dean Thornburg.

Survivors include her son, Rickie Thornburg of the home; daughter, Shirley Sumpter & husband;  daughter in law, Linda Thornburg       all of Fanshawe;  numerous grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
