Don Goforth

Don Milas Goforth II,  37, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 in Poteau.  Don was born July 30, 1982 in Poteau to Don Sr. & Lynda (Ward) Goforth.  He was an IT Technician and a Poteau Fire Fighter.   Don faithfully served the city of Poteau and its residents for 10 years.  During his tenure, Don responded to 1,744 of 1,977 calls, including 191 of 211 structure fires.  He joined the Poteau Fire Department in December of 2008, and served the department as Captain of Station 1 since January of 2014.  Don also held the title of communications officer while on the PFD.  He was husband to Cassie Goforth, father to Kaddon and Kylie, and a friend to every man on the Poteau Fire Department.  He commanded the respect of his peers, and earned their heartfelt friendship and deep love through his faithful dedication to the Department and each man who served with him.  Don loved being a firefighter, and the city of Poteau is indebted to him and his family for his service. Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clinton Milas & Alma Jean Goforth; aunts, Renee Baggs & Cathy Vaughn; uncle, Tom Goforth; and brother, Bruce Ingersoll.

Survivors include his wife, Cassie (Herschberger) Goforth; daughter, Kylie; son, Kaddon; father, Don Milas Goforth; mother, Lynda Ezell; sister & brother in law, Melanie & Blaine Jennings; niece & nephew, Phoebe & Dylan Jennings of Lafayette, LA; Antonn, Jamie, Brian Herschberger of Poteau; other relatives and many beloved friends.

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Donald W. Reynolds Community Center, Poteau, OK with Rev. Keith Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be BJ Barnes, Daniel Upton, Dustin Armstrong, Dustin Green, John Ford, Jake Thompson.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Poteau Fire Department.

The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
