Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

He was born on December 12, 1937 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to Angelene (Martin) Call and Carl Daniel Call and passed away on October 14, 2022 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma.  He was married to Patsy Call on 05/26/1972 in Stigler, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Marisa Farmer.

Survivors include: wife of 50 years Patsy (Drain) Call; children Carl Daniel Call and wife Brenda, James Call and wife Teresa, Judy Shimp and husband Tommy, Brenda Carpenter and husband Steven, Jimmy Baker, Carlus Call and Brandy Fox; 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; sisters Carmel Cloud, and Velta Eatmon and host of friends and loved ones.

Alberto Medina-Gonzalez


 Funeral Service for Alberto Medina-Gonzalez, 66 of Fort Smith, Arkansas will be at 10am on Monday, October 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Poteau, Oklahoma with Carlos Aguilar, , ,  officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

He was born on April 8, 1956 in Caltimacan, Hidalgo, Mexico to Cruz Gonzalez and Miguel Medina and passed away on October 13, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents Miguel Medina and Cruz Gonzalez, his wife Consuelo Medina. Today we honor the life of Alberto Medina. He was truly an amazing father and husband. he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau, Oklahoma. He spent many years working in the oil field and at the Radium Cotton Gin in Hamlin, Texas. He dedicated his life to his family and grandchildren making sure they were supported and loved. He leaves behind four kids, and seven grandchildren. It's hard to imagine life without him, he will truly be missed. We will hold onto the memories we made forever.

Survivors include: daughters Maria Medina, Veronica Martinez and husband Nuco, Linda Cuevas and husband Mauricio; son Albert Medina and wife Erin; grandchildren Andrea Jimenez, Monica Martinez, Vanessa Cuevas, Chloe Cuevas, Emmaline Medina, Marisol Martinez, Ranulfo Martinez IV; sisters Dominga Medina, Juana Medina, Felipa Medina, Esperanza Medina, Hortencia Medina,Cenorina Medina; brother, Pablo Medina, and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Herschel Eugene "Gene" Christenberry

He was born on September 18, 1939 in Shady Point, Oklahoma to Blanche (Williams) Christenberry and Herschel Christenberry and passed away on October 12, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  Gene was married to Betty (Butler) Christenberry on April 23, 1960 in Poteau, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, LaFaye Qualls; brother, Carl Christenberry, and infant brother, Marvin Christenberry.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Christenberry; children, Rossi Christenberry and wife Annette, Tina Adkins and husband Dennis; grandchildren, Ashley Bryan and husband Brandon, Brittany Herring and husband Tyler, Mitchell Adkins and wife Danielle, JohnRoss Christenberry and wife Kellie; great grandchildren, Will Bryan, Kimber Bryan, Allison Adkins, Mackenzie Christenberry, Tucker Christenberry, numerous other relatives and loved ones.

Vonda was born on August 26, 1936 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Nina Alba (Childers) Melton and George Washington Melton and passed away on October 8, 2022 in Houston, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Emily Johnston; grandmother, Grace Melton; son, Walter Dewayne Durant; sisters, Lorene Barbee, and Lois Jenkins; brother, Bill Melton; great grandchildren, Amerie Kraft, and Dalen Lomax.

She was born on January 11, 1947 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Velma Nadine Kramer and Alton Ray Billings and passed away on October 9, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sons, Ray Don Ellis, and Matthew Dale Ellis; Grand daughter, Emilia Jane Ellis.


Joe Escobar Soriano

Joe Soriano, 81, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1941, in Austin, Texas to Concha (Escobar) Soriano and Jose' Soriano. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Luz Soriano; two daughters, Andrea and Yvonne Soriano; and his sister, Amelia Soriano Aredondo.

He was a hard worker and previously retired from the City of Poteau – Street Department. He also did upholstery work in his garage - Airport Auto Trim. He enjoyed watching football and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He brought family and friends together by smoking brisket with all the fixings and inviting everyone over to his and grandma’s home. This home was a haven of peace, and the door was always open for many of us through the years when we needed a place to stay.

Survivors include his children: Linda McCroskey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Diana Bull of Sallisaw; Josie Moore of Cameron; and Joe Soriano III of Poteau; grandchildren: Michael McCroskey of Poteau, Leslie McCroskey of Tulsa, Angie Lambert of Poteau, Christina Rivas of Atoka, Amy Brown Manus of Sallisaw, Matthew Moore and Jonathan Moore of Cameron, Ashley Smith of Poteau, Guiliano and Angelo Soriano of Nixa, Missouri; Lexi and Cruz Soriano; brothers Auggie and Daniel Soriano of Austin, Texas; Sister Carrie Sanchez of Austin, Texas; numerous great grandchildren, other relatives, loved ones, and friends.

Paul  was born on March 31, 1945 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Faye (Boyd) Worley and Bethel Bates and passed away on October 4, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  He  was preceded in death by his parents;  maternal grandparents, Oscar and Winnie Boyd; paternal grandparents, John and Ella Bates. Paul enjoyed fishing, eating, watching westerns, and football.  Spending time with his grandchildren, and watching them play sports. He was a member at  First Assembly of Panama. He was always helping others in need, he loved his animals.

Betty was born on January 23, 1939 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Lear Morton and Jess Franklin Morton and peacefully passed away at home on October 1, 2022 in Howe, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill Callahan, and Don White; infant daughter, Billie Jane Callahan; son, Robin Callahan, daughter-in-law, Rella Callahan; sisters, Ruby Benson, and Retha Moore; baby brother, Joril Morton. Betty loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending ball games, going to the casino, yard selling, listening to Jimmy Swaggart and Daniel O'Donnell.

LOUIS DOREY

February 22, 1933 – September 26, 2022

Louis Dorey was born in Poteau, Oklahoma in 1933 to Cleo Mildred (Hunter) Dorey and Louis Joseph Dorey. 

On September 26th, 2022 he passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years old. The funeral will be held at Evan’s Funeral Home in the chapel this Friday, September 30th at 2pm.

When Mary Sue and Louis met through a mutual friend she was living in Panama and he lived in Poteau. The couple spent 47 years living in El Reno where they raised their children. After moving back to Poteau, Louis and Mary Sue were introduced to singing groups. He even played the guitar and sang as part of a group on occasion. This year Louis and Mary Sue were able to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

At a young age Louis bravely served the United States in the Korean War. He was a retired Sergeant war veteran who served with company I, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division of the National Guard. The group was called into active military service in September 1950. Later on, Louis worked as an Assistant Warden in El Reno.

He loved Eastern Oklahoma. He had a variety of hobbies including gardening, carpentry, fishing, camping, raising bees, watching OU football with his son Louis and nephew Mike Lovett, bird watching, photography, working on the family farm, and spending time with family.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Arlene Dorey Branson and Clarice Goodnight. He is survived by his wife Mary Sue, sister Cleora Raney, son Louis and spouse Susan, daughter Kathryn, granddaughter Kellye and spouse Oz, great-granddaughter Norah, granddaughter Laura and spouse Greg, great-granddaughter Claire, and extended family members.

Louis was well known and loved by many. He will be dearly missed. 


Pallbearers will be Bob Branson, Cotton Hale, and Billy King.

Martha was born on March 16, 1968 in Tacoma, WA to Clara M (Rupe) Boss and Frederick Allen Boss and passed away on September 19, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Boss; and her grandparents.

Jodie Dameron-Fox

Funeral services for Jodie Dameron-Fox will be 2pm Tuesday, September 27th at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau, Oklahoma, burial will follow in Vaughn Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.  There will be NO VIEWING but the guest book may be signed from 9am-8pm Monday, the family will visit and greet friends 6pm-8pm Monday at the Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel.  

Jodie Lynn Dameron-Fox was born on June 10, 1976 in Boise City, Oklahoma. She went to be with her Lord on September 21, 2022. She was 46 years old. She is survived by her husband Steve Fox, her mother Anna Dameron, and her brother Justin Dameron and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Ronald Dameron.

Jodie was adopted into her family at 2 years old. From day one she stole her daddy’s heart and continued to steal the heart of everyone else she ever met.

Jodie was a hairdresser for 27 years in Poteau. She was extremely successful and excellent at her job. It wasn’t just a job though, it was a talent and a gift. She befriended all of her clients and it became a generational relationship. She became part of their families. She was very influential in our community with her faith, friendships, and generosity. If she had something you needed, she would give it. When Jodie was 8 yrs old, she gave her heart to Jesus. Her walk with God led her for the rest of her life. She was very involved in her church. She attended Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship for many years. She sang on the praise team, she volunteered with the youth group, she helped lead a young ladies’ bible study once a week, and served in various capacities. Jodie was always smiling and her presence lit up the room. She was loving, loyal, and fiercely protective of those she loved. She touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with. Jodie was an amazing Aunt. Aunt JoJo had many adopted nieces and nephews that loved her and she would do anything for them. She had a very special place in her heart for her niece Whitney and for her two young cousins Jace and Jude.

On September 22nd, 3 years ago she met the love of her life. One year later, Jodie and Steve were married. They had a loving marriage and spent their precious time together doing their favorite things like laughing, singing, and cooking. Jodie left a legacy of love and laughter. She gave of herself and blessed us all.

Thelma Griffith

Funeral Service for Thelma Mozelle Griffith, 82 of Poteau, Oklahoma will be at 10am on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma with Jim Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Thelma was born on October 28, 1939 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Eunice (Hancock) and Dewey Peters and passed away on September 23, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Griffith; son, Ronald Griffith; brother, Odie Peters, Bill Peters; sister, Wilma Peters. Thelma loved her grandchildren, being a grandparent. She looked forward to Bayker Lynn coming to do cheer for her.

Survivors include: son, Michael and Julia Griffith; grandchildren, Kimberly Cooper and husband Ryan, Nathan Griffith and wife Kristal, Jessica Griffith, Dustin Griffith, and Abby Griffith; great grandchildren, Corbin Griffith, Cash Griffith, Bayker Lynn Griffith, Gunner Lynch, Kynlie Lynch, Alyssa Goodnight, Rylan Cooper, Alyah Cooper, Arianna Cooper; numerous other relatives and loved ones.

Samuel Wesley Pickle

Samuel Wesley Pickle (93) of Poteau, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau under the direction of the Evans and Miller Funeral Home.  

Wesley was born on September 24, 1928, in Monroe, Oklahoma to Stella (Hemphill) Pickle and Sam Pickle. He was married to Patricia (Turner) Pickle on May 30, 1953, in Poteau. He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant siblings, Jerome Pickle, Hazel Ward, June Hall, Sylvan "Syb" Pickle, and Syble Ellis.  
 
Wesley spent most of his adult life molding the hearts and minds of students as an educator in the Poteau school system. During his career, he spent time as a math teacher and an assistant principal. In 1974 he was honored as both Poteau Public Schools and Leflore County’s Teacher of the year.
 
Wesley also worked as a rancher, and in 1985 the Pickle family was honored as the Outstanding Farm Family for Leflore County.  

Wesley was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with his church family.   

Wesley also believed in giving back to his community.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Leflore County Soil Conservation Service and was the President of the Board of Directors for the Monroe cemetery. He also served as the Honorary Chapter Farmer for the Poteau FFA.  

Wesley is survived by his wife Pat of 69 years; his children Susan Pickle Boggs and husband Brian of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Linda Jane Boyd and husband Curtis of Tipton, Oklahoma; David Sam Pickle and wife Kris of Poteau, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mildred Pickle of Iowa City, Iowa.   

Pallbearers will be Wesley Boyd, Will Boyd, Johnny Baker, Curtis Boyd, Brian Boggs, and Chase Tucker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Arthur Heavener, Ed Abernathy, and Ralph Pickle.  

Visitation will be Friday, September 30, 2022, from 5-7 p.m.

Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home Poteau, Oklahoma.

Linda was born on February 8, 1947 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Beatrice (Bell) Rice and Leon Rice and passed away on September 21, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was married to Garry Skinner on December 25, 2004 in Howe, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Adams; brother, Jerry Rice and wife Margie; sister-in-law, Betty Adams; brother-in-law, George Maynor; mother-in-law, Ann Witt; father-in-law, Jay Adams.

Survivors include: husband, Garry Skinner; daughter, Kristi Hill and husband Brad; son, Kevin Adams and wife Becky; adopted son, Gary Hecht and wife Donna; stepsons, Chris Skinner, and Curtis Skinner; grandchildren, Shelbey and Chad Jackson, Brooklynn Adams, Brenna Adams, Chloe Hecht, Zoey Hecht, and Christian Price, Kylee Skinner, Maddie Skinner, and Brielle Skinner; sister-in-law, Reah Maynor, Carolyn and Robert Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Darrel Adams and Ginger.
