Ileen M. Newby, 93, of Fanshawe, OK passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 in Poteau, OK.   Ileen was born May 17, 1919 in Magazine, AR to Hoyt & Dovie (Holderfield) Rana.  She was a homemaker.  Ileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, EuellA. Newby; sister, Patsy Ruth Rana; brothers, J.T. Rana, Max Rana; son, Euell D. Newby; grandson, Allen Gene Newby.

Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Free Will Baptist Church in Fanshawe, OK with Rev. Tracy Martin & Rev. Keith Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in Fanshawe Cemetery, Fanshawe, OK.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joshua Boucher, Jantsen Boucher, Shane Reeves, Stacy Newby, Larry Rana & Kevin Coley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Stewart Branscum, Tim Adkinson, Jim Bowman David Buck & Dr. Gerald Rana Jr.

Jay P. Shelton, 89, of Shady Point, OK passed away December 23, 2012 in Pocola, OK.  Jay was born March 13, 1923 in Shady Point, OK to Noah & Lula (Winters) Shelton.  He was a veteran of the US Army.   Jay was a brick mason.  He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ilene Shelton; 3 sisters, Doris Marie Adams, Marvaline Duck, Rosa Lee Killion; 4 brothers, L.B., Million “Mitt”, Donald, & Jackie Dale Shelton.

Survivors include Ronald Dean & Doris Shelton of Shady Point, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Richard Allen Hawthorne, 76, of Shady Point, OK passed away December 22, 2012 in Shady Point.  Richard was born December 29, 1935 in Jenny Lind, AR to Richard W. & Grace Reynolds (Myers) Hawthorne.  He was retired from the US Navy.  Richard was a member of the First Step of Faith Church in Poteau, OK.  

Survivors include his wife, Jacletia of the home; daughter, Karen Hawthorne of the home; sons, Rick Hawthorne of Paris, TX and Willie Hawthorne of Dixon, CA; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Clifton and brother, Donald Hawthorne of Shady Point, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Debra Lynn Embrey McDonough



Debra Lynn Embrey McDonough, 56. of Lowell, AR passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Rogers, AR.  Debra was born October 26, 1956 in Houston, TX to Eldred & Beverly Jean (Caldwell) Embrey.  She was an English professor in Alfred and Wellsville, NY.  In addition, she taught junior high and high school at Immaculate Conception in Wellsville, NY and Bristow High School in Bristow, OK.  Debra was preceded in death by her father.

Clifford O. Harris




Clifford Oliver Harris, 94, of Indianapolis, IN (formerly of Monroe, OK) passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 in Indianapolis.   He was born March 11, 1918 in Monroe, OK to William Thomas & Ollie Josephine (Pounds) Harris.  Clifford was a veteran of the Merchant Marines.  He was an aircraft electronic technician for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Agnes Marie (Askew) Harris; daughter, Lynda Chambers; grandson, Steven Chambers; granddaughter, Deborah Kuhn; 6 Great Grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be  11 am, Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK.  Interment will be in Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK.    Pallbearers will be Ken Koster, Steven Chambers, Zachary Chambers, Ryan Chambers, Don Pickle, Dylan Pickle.

Kenneth Fox



Kenneth Doyle Fox, 63, of Shady Point, OK passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Shady Point.  Kenny was born March 31, 1949 in Casa Grande, AZ to Doyle Edward & Cecelea Marie Fox.  He was a jack of all trades.  Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents;brother, Harold Edward Fox.  Kenny tackled anything and anybody.  He worked as a carpenter in El Centro, CA for years.  He grew up in Santa Maria, CA, went to school there, then joined the Army.  Kenny loved birds and chickens.

He is survived by one son, John Nathan Fox and daughter, Teresa Dawnell of Santa Maria, CA;  sisters, Helen Louise Fox of Rogers, WA, Norma Jean Fox of Moreland, OK, Darlene Fox Scharf of Nevada; brother, Charles Wayne Fox of WA; best friend, Nadine Edwards; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Faye Holloway Nebraski



Faye Holloway Nebraski, 89, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 in Poteau.  Faye was born May 12, 1923 in West Plains, MO to Charlie L. & Olive (Lamb) Holloway.  She was a homemaker.  Faye was a member of the First Christian Church in Poteau.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John “Jiggs” Nebraski and sister, Betty Weir.

Survivors include her sons & daughter in law, Ken & Judy Nebraski of Havelock, NC, Harold Nebraski of Poteau, OK; 3 grandchildren & their spouses, Susie & Darren Mitchell of Panama, OK, John & Vyki Nebraski of Edmondton, KY, Chuck & Tara Nebraski of Newport, NC; 6 great grandchildren, Kory, Stephanie, Raymond, Samantha, Christopher, & Maggie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 1 pm, Friday, December 28, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Poteau with Tracy Ellis officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Ida Bell Thompson



Ida Bell Thompson, 65, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Oklahoma City, OK.  Ida was born May 5, 1947 in Ft. Smith, AR to Durfey Sr. & Martha (Green) Thompson.  Ida graduated from Poteau High School  and was retired from the OSU Extension Office where she worked as a nutrition coordinator.  Ida was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Ruth Nell (Thompson) Copkney & Durfey May Thompson.  She diligently assisted the local Girl Scout troop as well as working with the youth at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.  Ida was also manager for planning menus for church fellowships.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ancio Thompson; daughter, Antoinette Thompson both of Poteau; 4 grandchildren, Devin Damae Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Desmond Thompson and Jamese Horst; brothers, Durfey Thompson Jr. & wife Carmen of Edmond, OK, Robert Lee Thompson of Poteau; nephew, Durfey Thompson III of Edmond, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Friday, December 21, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Poteau, with Rev. Marvin A. Thompson officiating.  Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Devin Thompson, Dylan Gregory, Dylan Stone, Michael Reynolds, Logan Hilderbrand, Gabe Sanchez.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Poteau Pirate High School Football Team.

Terry Edward Koeninger



Terry Edward Koeninger, 65, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in Poteau.  Terry was born February 11, 1947 in Plainview, TX to Ernest Edward & Gussie Margaurite (Orcutt) Koeninger.  Terry retired in 2007 after 38 years with J.C. Penney.  His tenure with J.C. Penney began in Lubbock, TX.  Ten years were in Fort Smith, AR as assistant manager.  The last thirteen years he was manager in Maysville, KY.  Terry began his courageous battle with cancer in 2008 and on Tuesday he won, receiving his prize of heaven.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; 2 daughters, Tracie & Greg Henry of Weatherford, OK, Kelly & Jeff Hewitt of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren, Katie & Tyler Henry of Weatherford, OK, Josh & Kaycee Hall of Poteau, OK, Layne & Zayden Dennis of Poteau, OK; brother & sister in law, Larry & Mary Koeninger of College Station, TX; step children, Kelley Dennis & Jeff Dennis of Poteau, OK; special friends, Bary & Betty Kinslow of Cookson, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Bonnie Jean Pendleton, 78, of Pocola, OK passed away peacefully Thursday, December 13, 2012 surrounded with the love of her children, brothers & sister.  Bonnie was born March 5, 1934 in Stigler, OK to Attress & Evelyn (Ray) Underwood.    She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Pendleton; her parents;  sister, Marion Wright; brothers, Charles (Budgie) Underwood and Howard Underwood; granddaughter, Destiny Pendleton.  

She was the loving mother of 2 daughters, Debra Clinard and Sarah Morris of Pocola, OK; 5 sons & their wives, Joe  & Sandy Pendleton of St. Louis, MO, David Pendleton of Pocola, OK, Rocky & Tammy Pendleton of Greenwood, AR, James Pendleton of Pocola, OK, Roger & Jan Heiss of Ft. Smith, AR; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; 1 sister, Betty Allbritton of Spiro, OK; 2 brothers, Jimmie Underwood of Spiro, OK, Joe Underwood of Panama, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & loved ones; and a host of  great friends she cherished.

Melba Louise Scroggins Cooper, 71, of Panama, OK passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in Poteau, OK.  Melba was born July 17, 1941 in Cameron, OK to William Thay & Rosie Mae (Potter) Scroggins.  She was retired from General Telephone. Melba was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Ray Scroggins and great grandson, Caden Duane Goins.

She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Ann Cooper of Panama, OK, Cindi Leigh Chiatovich of Fontana, CA; son, Edwin Richard Cooper of Spiro, OK; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth Wayne Scroggins, of Mesa, AZ, Curtis Bryan Scroggins of Ft. J.T. Smith, 83, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 in Poteau.  J.T. was born in Sugar Loaf, OK on January 31, 1929 to Finis & Hestor (McMillian) Smith.  J.T. was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII.  He was a truck driver.  J.T. was preceded in death by his parents & one brother, Thurell Smith.

Velta Ruth Pipkins, 78, of Pocola, OK passed away Sunday, December 09, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR.  Velta was born September 30, 1934 in   Mulberry, AR to Clyde & Letha (Jordan) Drummond.  She was  a furniture refurbisher for many years and then worked  for Welker Macine Shop.  Velta was preceded in death by her father; daughter, Linda Partlow Wilkins and great grandson, Noah Holsted.

        Ruth Wilson, 79, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, December 07, 2012 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Ruth was born July 6, 1933 in Glendale, OK to Wilburn Perry & Ida Mae (Balentine) Glenn.  She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau.  She was a retired hair dresser.  The love of Ruth’s life was the “Special Olympics” and the Democratic Party.  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; 6 brothers, Lawrence, Loren, Cecil, John, Oscar & Fred;  and son, Jerry Bob Thompson.
          Survivors include her daughter  & son in law, Glenda Ruth (Thompson) & Wayne Hey of OKC;  2 grandchildren, Shelli Hey & special friend, Linda Holmes,  Kyle Hey; 4 great grandchildren; other relatives & loved  ones; many beloved friends.

Winifred Fern “Winnie” Karl, 92, of Pocola, OK passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in Pocola.  Winnie was born September 26, 1920 in Wray, CO to Joe & Mary (Kibel) Andrews.  She was a homemaker.  Winnie loved flowers, gardening, singing, and church.  She always taught Sunday School.  She loved her family, friends and being with her grand and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Karl; 5 brothers & 1 sister.

Jimmy Dale Hill, 67, of Wister, OK passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Jimmy was born October 6, 1945 in Oklahoma City, OK to Thurman & Jewel (Killian) Hill.  He worked for the street dept. of the City of Modesto.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Earhart & brother, Bill Hill. 

Survivors include his son, Mike Hill of Turlock, CA; grandson, Davis Hill of Turlock, CA; brother & sister in law, Gene & Marvel Hill of Wister, OK; longtime companion, Leona Sherry;  numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Rosella "Ross" Klutts



Rosella Caroline (Saline) Klutts
     Ross Klutts, 87, of Poteau, passed away December 1, 2012 in Ft. Smith, AR.  She was born July 1, 1925 in Oglesby, IL to William Derico and Maria Salina.  Ross married Benny Klutts on December 4, 1948 in Pryor, OK.  She was a Registered Nurse and served as Director of Nursing at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau.  She was also a volunteer nurse for many years at the Poteau Primary and Upper Elementary Schools and the Poteau Free Clinic at the Christian Church.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau, OK. 

Ross is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Ben.

She is survived by her sons; Billy of Poteau, Dusty of Poteau, Kip & daughter-in-law Suzanne of Poteau; daughters, Shaun & son in law, Dr. Ted Kondos of Poteau, and Shala Klutts of Ft. Smith, AR; 11 grandchildren, Darraugh Kondos, Lindsey Manley, Chris Kondos, Chad Klutts, Jake Klutts, Garrett Klutts, Wilson Klutts, Ben Klutts, Joelle Espina, Jade Espina and Sofia Espina; one sister, Mary Bubel of Dallas, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, friends & loved ones.

Wade, 75, of Shady Point, OK passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR.  Betty was born March 6, 1937 in Booneville, AR to Robert Matthew & Addie Alice (Beshears) Anderson.  She was a Petroleum Landman – Oil & Gas Lease.  Betty was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Wister.  She was secretary for the Oasis Int’l. Ministries for 11 years.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.B. Wade & sister, Liz Heavener.

Moore, 99, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 in Poteau.  Helen was born August 19, 1913 in Coalgate, OK to John & Elizabeth (Fisher) Wood.    She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Poteau.  She and Troy James Moore were married Augst 25, 1933 in Talihina, OK.  Troy preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1982; as well as her parents; daughter, Phyllis Ann Moore; great granddaughter, Angela;  siblings,  Annie May Wood, John Fisher Wood, Margaret G. Wood, William John Wood, Bessie M. Wood, Lillian Mae Wood, George Fisher Wood

Helen is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Marsha Kay & Charles Carrell of Wellington, KS;  5 grandchildren, Beth, Janet, Steve, Troy, Sara Kay; 9 great grandchildren, Kadie Elijah, Andrew, Michelle, Leigh Ann, Ginger, Jonathan, Katie, & Caleb;  3 great great grandchildren, Brittney, Marissa & Willa Rose;  special friends, Garry & Linda Skinner; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Monday at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau.  Interment will  follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Poteau, or the Poteau Nutrition Center.

Billie Louise Morris



Billie Louise Morris, 88, of Wister, OK passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR.  Billie was born in Wister, OK on January 15, 1924 to Charles A. & Irma  I. (Brown) Reed.  Billie was a homemaker.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wister since 1957.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbert Morris; sons, William Charles Morris and Martin Morris; daughter Shannon Kitchens and granddaughter, Stephanie  May.

Survivors include her children, Irma Morris and Kevin Morris of Wister, OK; grandchildren, David Martin Morris, Casey May, Tara  Ollie, Jessica May, Brittany Morris, Desirae Morris; great grandchildren,  Ransom May Rogers, Maylei Rogers; sister, Lila Bruce & Tatema Armstrong; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services were 2 pm, Wed., November 28, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Wister, OK with Rev. Keith Stewart and Bro Gary Ollie officiating.  Interment will follow in Wister City Cemetery.

Amy Childs



    Amy Lynn Rains Childs, 40, of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 in Ft. Smith.  Amy was born May 12, 1972 in Kansas City, MO to Kerry & Connie (Branch) Rains.  She was a CNA.
 Survivors include her husband, Ron Childs of Ft. Smith, AR; 2 sons, Christopher Gandee and Christian Jacob Gandee of Red Oak, OK; daughter, Angel Childs of Ft. Smith, AR; father, Kerry Rains of Simms, AR; mother, Connie Long of Ft. Smith, AR; 3 grandchildren, Taliyah Blount, Kiahre Kursh, Alasia Kursh; brothers, Vincent Rains of FL, Brian Rains of Ft. Smith, AR, Michael Long of Alma, AR, Derrick Long  and Charlie Thornton both of Van Buren, AR; sisters, Jodi Rains of Chester, AR, Christie Long Palmer of Oklahoma City, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Friday, November 30, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will be in LeFlore Cemetery, LeFlore, OK.  Pallbearers will be Michael Long, Derrick Long, David Wells, Charlie Thornton, Seth Kursh and Terrance Smith. 

The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
